Why doesn't ALW's original musical state that the Phantom's name was Erik?

Along with the mistery that goes with not knowing the phantom's name, I also think it creates 更多 sympathy from the viewer. I mean, think about it--no one was even kind enough to give this poor man a name. It highlights furthur how horriby he was treated. Althought it would have been nice to know his name, especially if 你 have not read the novel and one of the many fictions following the original. As 说 before this also make the phantom all the 更多 curious. Who wouldn't be facinated 由 someone simply knows as "The Phantom"--I know I would be rivitted.

I've always wondered that as well. It could be because they wanted the character to be 更多 mysterious. Not knowing the name of a character can definitely achieve that.
