if you live in Cali, then you get a lot. it's weird. the ground will start shaking rapidly all the sudden. if it's small, then you're just shaking a little and a few light-weight objects fall off your desk. if it's bad, then dishes will be falling off your counter in the kitchen and you're shaking so much that you fall down. the most recent was two summers ago, which was bad. everyone ran outside.
Yup, measured Richter scale of 7.3. the destruction was pretty severe but my family were all fine, I was actually going to sleep through it (coz it was midnight) until mum woke me. And then our door got stuck so we had to get out from the window when we were on the 5th floor.
I wasn't scared, probably because I was too young still but I remembered it very well. We get this a lot in where I used to live though, so it wasn't that much of a big deal.
I think they're exciting; I don't like the damage left, but I love earthquakes. I love the feeling, the adrenaline rush, like the building's about to crush down on you... it feels like the world is crumbling around you and you just want to get out. It's so cool...
A very mild one happened where I live a few years ago. The tee shirts that say, "I Survived the 2008 Earthquake" (which are sold at the local drugstore) are a joke though, there was barely an earthquake.
