Do 你 have to like 提交 a whole bunch of 文章 或者 something to get medals?

No, I mean, 文章 help... but really as long as 你 post A LOT of content to a club, whether it be 视频 或者 图片 或者 民意调查 或者 questions, as long as you're posting often and a lot.

bro i only 提交 one article... and i got a medal... it's all about participation... the 更多 你 comment, post pics, vids, links, 或者 articles, and make polls, quizzes, and 问题 the 更多 likely 你 will get a medal. i just made tons of 评论 and 发布 some pics and polls. :D

Not just that but also pictures,videos and links. It takes a long time to get the medal but at the end 你 get it.
