Sometimes Hollywood just can\'t help bringing characters back from the dead.
Sometimes they made a mistake in killing them off, sometimes it was planned from the beginning, but it\'s not always an easy trick to pull of because, well, it\'s not something that happens IRL.
Cue some weird, wacky and lame resurrections. Behold the daftest.
wasn\'t great, but at least it wrapped Ellen Ripley\'s story up with a good ol\' noble sacrifice. Her return as a clone \'with xenomorph DNA\' in
was an ill-conceived resurrection wrapped in an ill-conceived resurrection – not to mention subjecting us to THAT basketball scene. \'Kill you\', Ripley? We would if we could.
Marvel ripped our hearts out when they let poor, lovable Agent Phil Coulson be stabbed through the back by Loki in
. He didn\'t deserve the deeply upsetting way he was brought back in
, and after all that he seems to have be relegated from the MCU movies anyway.
You know who loved Jennifer Garner\'s Elektra in
? No one. Bearing that in mind, we will never understand why she was brought back to life by magic for a solo film about bringing people back to life by magic.
4. Letty Ortiz (Fast & Furious series)
was definitely shot and killed in the fourth film while trying to crawl from the wreckage of her car. Ok, we didn\'t see the bullet enter her body, but that had probably more to do with
Or was it? Instead it was revealed several films later that her car was actually shot. It exploded and somehow she was thrown free and left for dead, only to return in
. Oh, and did we mention she ended up with amnesia too? Oh, brother...
Jack Sparrow and his pals basically spent the first
film trying to kill Geoffrey Rush\'s evil, quasi-immortal Barbossa, only for him to be brought back to life at the end of
by Naomie Harris\'s voodoo priestess Tia Dalma. No real explanation was ever given, though we put it down to the itchy hands of Narrative Expediency (otherwise known as the \'because we say so\' school of screenwriting).
6. Spock (Star Trek III: The Search for Spock)
Leonard Nimoy\'s Spock got a genuinely tearful send off in
. (The hand! The funeral! Our eyes are filling up just thinking about it.) Luckily, his coffin basically made a beeline for the Genesis Planet and an insta-resurrection. Spock had also been foresighted enough (how?) to hide all his memories in crotchety old Dr McCoy, and by the end of the movie everything was back to normal. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how you cheapen a classic death.
7. Captain Kirk (Star Trek: Into Darkness)
cribbed from the movie, Kirk\'s \'death\' was probably the worst. No one believed for a second that he was dead, and even the method of his return was telegraphed well in advance. And no, swapping Kirk and Spock\'s roles was neither clever nor surprising.
Sure, the fault for this resurrection goes all the way back to JRR Tolkien, but the movie doesn\'t clarify what the hell happens. Gandalf fights the Balrog, gets a magical makeover and comes back better than ever. Huh?
The meta-horror comedy series is known for making some knowing nods to slasher tropes, and doesn\'t miss the opportunity to gently poke fun at the indestructible killer cliché. Despite its villain Victor Crowley having his face blown up with a shotgun at the end of the second film/beginning of the third, he is immediately shown to have *somehow* survived. Think of it as purposefully silly.
