I went through a short period of time where I sought out extremely controversial 电影院 and actually watched them. Most of them I couldn't get past because while they were truly shocking, they were also incredibly boring. I actually made it all the way through Irreversible once. Never again. Not only was the style of film lacking, the rape scene was way too much. There's shocking and then there's exploitation.
