Is this For a reason?????

I looked it up when I was at my 老友记 house (she is part Japanese) and she told me that both Hikaru and Kaoru's name mean mainly the same thing!!! Is this true 或者 is there a reason for it????

Hikaru- to shine, glitter, be bright

Kaoru- to smell sweet, to be fragrant
