About the traditional gender roles thing, imo, Twilight strikes me as something that would have been much more respected if it was written long ago when fairy tales like Beauty and the Beast or novels like Pride & Prejudice were written. You know, if it was published when traditional gender roles were still accepted.

I agree with Ally about the gender roles.

When those other books were written, society had a comepletely different view-point about the way men and women act. In the modern era, the way Edward treats Bella, and the way she behaves, is a bit wrong.

For example, Lord of the Rings is a bit sexist since there aren't as many girls fighting, but only because the books were published in the 1940's, where this would be considered right.
nowadays, not so much.

I think traditional gender roles should always be accepted.

Any gender role should be accepted, unless you enjoy oppression. Even "inverted" oppression.
