Glee Series Finale: What Did the Cast Think of the Ending?
Glee series finale, we were hearing brief teases about the two-hour event from various cast members, but no one could really talk about it until the rest of the world saw how Ryan Murphy and Co. chose to end things with some of McKinley High’s most gifted alumni. But now that the Glee series finale has aired — the show took its final bow on March 20 — we can check back in with the cast to hear their thoughts on the series’ end.
“It\'s such a massive journey; it feels like you don\'t know where it\'s going to go until it goes there but the writers did a good job,” Chord Overstreet (Sam) told The Hollywood Reporter. “I feel like everybody was happy with it. It\'s a fitting ending for Sam. I don\'t really know where else you\'d go with it, unless it\'s back on the pole at Stallion\'s doing his thing! Other than that, I feel pretty good about it.”
For those of you who didn’t catch the finale (shame!), Sam passed over another move to New York City, and took over the New Directions after McKinley became an arts high school.
As for Sam’s old pal Mercedes (Amber Riley)? She became Beyoncé’s opening act, of course! “It ended the way it\'s supposed to — with Mercedes working hard toward her dream, and that\'s what her journey was: finding her confidence through the high school and when she finally goes for it, she\'s still working hard.”
As promised, the series finale also honored Finn (Cory Monteith) beautifully, with Vice President Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) renaming the McKinley auditorium the Finn Hudson auditorium, a moving gesture that Lea Michele (Rachel) approved of.
“I\'m so happy [with how the series ended] and I really think that Ryan, Brad, Ian and the rest of the writers had a difficult task in wrapping up everyone\'s storylines and making sure that everyone was happy,” she reasons. “And in making sure to honor Cory and do all of that in one episode, they really did a great job being respectful of everyone\'s storylines and making sure that the fans were happy.”
