Average annual incomes for K-pop idols rise significantly thanks to the Hallyu Wave

The National Tax Service has recently revealed that the average annual income among K-Pop idols has increased significantly since 2010.

According to the data, the average K-Pop idol income has increased 72.2 percent in three years between 2010 and 2013. While in 2010 the average salary was 22.64 million won (approximately $20,000 USD), K-Pop idols\' average salary more than doubled to 46.74 million won (approximately $43,000 USD) by 2013.

Although the salary number is still shockingly low to some who might expect public figures to be making more money, many idols have to share a huge chunk of their earnings with their agencies and split the rest among their group members. Experts say that idol working conditions are still not ideal, but that things have been gradually improving in their favor. It is also believed that the increase in salary was largely do to an increased focus on international activities as idols venture overseas for concerts and music sales via the Hallyu Wave.

Korean celebrities in general saw an increase in annual income. While actors / TV hosts salaries increased from 33.31 million won (approximately $31,000 USD) to 37.18 million won (approximately $34,000 USD). Salaried employees saw an increase from 26.42 million won (approximately $24,000 USD) to 30.07 million won (approximately $28,000 USD) in three years. Overall, idols dominate in terms of earning the most money. Once a group that earned the least among celebrities, idols now earn even more than actors.

Forbes the idol groups who made the most money in the first half of 2014 were Super Junior, Girls\' Generation, Big Bang, and 2NE1. While Super Junior raked in 31.4 billion won (approximately $28.9 million USD), Girls\' Generation earned 30.3 billion won (approximately $27.9 million USD), Big Bang earned 29.4 billion won (approximately $27.1 million USD), and 2NE1 earned 27.5 billion won (approximately $25.3 million USD).

Kings and Queens. I have been a KPOP fan since 2007 and these groups have always made it. These groups are the REAL KINGS and QUEENS of KPOP. These four groups are untouchable. They are like the REAL Leaders in the Hallyu wave. 

Is it just me or some people here are plain stupid? What do they understand from the word "AVERAGE"? It\' not like all IDOL groups earn as much as GG, SJ BB or 2ne1 and when they say IDOL GROUPS that includes those that debuted but are not really FAMOUS. It\'s not like everybody can be famous right? Anyway, you can hate all you want but SJ GG BB and 2NE1 really do earn a lot. Those that just plainly hate 2ne1 and say that\'s not true, well hon, you can comment all you want behind your pentium 4 PC but my girls are earning a lot and that\'s not gonna change. Look at it this way, first, EXO or INFINITE may earn a lot but how many members are there in these groups compared to 2ne1? Second, an article back in 2009, stated that 2ne1 as a rookie is being paid on the same level as SJ and GG. now can we blame YG if his marketing skills is that good? YG has made a reputation or brand for himself and so I don\'t think it\'s impossible if he "OVERPRICES\' 2ne1. Imagine that was 2009, the girls has won numerous international and local awards. had International Exposures, and established themselves as one of the FINEST Idol groups not to mention TENURE as a KPOP group, so duhhh? Even if they do so little they will still earn a lot. Well SJ GG and BB, you won\'t argue over these groups right? JUST DON\'T.

The average includes kpop groups that have yet to see a profit. Not every grouo can be on top and make millions. There were many debuts many weren\'t even aware of. Lol this average includes their income too. I hope this explains where they get their calculations from

Tours are where the bulk of earnings come from. They are not denying these groups rake in alot of profit. But the groups do not keep the full 60 million (for example) they made from the tour. Many artsist have even stated they do not see an actual pay check until the 3rd album is released. Most record companies loan their artist the money to record an album. If the album doesn\'t sell well, or the tour fails to draw in a crowd, the artist must find some way to pay back the company. So alot of their earnings from tours is paying off the money used to fund it. I don\'t think SM or YG work "exactly" that way, but most record companies do.

before people making it sounds like kpop idol is the poorest job ever, please note that this is the average value, and idol living expenses are usually supported by their agency, including clothes, housing, food and transportation so the value is pretty much going straight to their pockets (or their parent\'s) without having to pay the bills

My family makes more than double of what idols make but I still have to save up for months to buy an album... But they\'re still awesome and I love them.
