'Game of Thrones' stars react to those 23 Emmy nominations

 season 6 scored Emmy nominations for series stars Peter Dinklage, Kit Harington, Lena Headey, Maisie Williams, and Emilia Clarke. But the season’s breakout was arguably 12-year-old Bella Ramsey, who plays Lady Lyanna Mormont, the child who led her house into battle alongside Jon Snow’s army of Wildlings.

According to castmate Liam Cunningham, who plays Sir Davos Seaworth, the young actress is as poised and capable as her on-screen counterpart.

“She makes me sick,” Cunningham said during an interview at EW’s lounge at Comic-Con International in San Diego. “She’s so professional. She’s absolutely fabulous. The first day we rehearsed with her, because she’s a little girl and we wanted to giver her a little time, she walked in, and the performance was 100 percent perfect. We hadn’t even got our lines off. We were reading off pieces of paper. We all just looked at her and felt like complete amateurs. That girl is an absolute star. She’s fantastic and a beautiful person as well.”

Cunningham was joined by Conleth Hill (Lord Varys), Faye Marsay (the Waif), John Bradley (Sam), and Iwan Rheon (Ramsay Bolton), as well as director Miguel Sapochnik.

The actors reflected on the season 6 finale, which saw Daenerys Targaryen crossing the narrow sea with her fleet of ships carrying Dothraki and Unsullied warriors. But another

character made the voyage multiple times throughout the season — prompting a rather fantastical fan theory.

Lord Varys traveled back and forth between Essos and Westeros so frequently and with such apparent ease, that some fans are positing that the Lord of Whispers is actually a merman.

“I have no thoughts on it whatsoever, to be completely honest,” Hill said. He added with a laugh, “Is there any other mermaid or merman in the series so far, are they in the books? Have I missed them?”

After the finale aired in June, write-producer Bryan Cogman addressed timeline discrepancies throughout the season, including Hill’s perhaps-too-frequent trips across the Narrow Sea. “The timelines of the various story threads don’t necessarily match up all the time,” Cogman tweeted. “I tied myself in knots season 1 trying to make it all line up. We realized right quick doing so would kill momentum.”
