I remember visiting this website once...
It was called Mesa Roldán confirmed as a Game of Thrones season 6 location | Watchers on the 墙 | A Game of Thrones Community for Breaking News, Casting, and Commentary
Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
in Almería has been confirmed, bringing another exciting new location into the mix of shooting in Spain.
, the news was announced by the local council through an official statement, detailing the filming decided by show producters and Carboneras mayor Salvador Hernández.
reports that Mesa Roldán, its tower and its surroundings will hosting shooting this October. Mesa Roldán is a coastal mesa holding a lighthouse and the remains of a watchtower.
The publication reports that, “The producer has chosen Mesa Roldán for the beauty of its landscape, its easy access, its vegetation and the peculiarities of its land.”
In other location news, it’s been a very busy couple weeks for the extras casting agency in Spain, with Navarre, Almería and Girona. In the Valencian town of Peñíscola, casting was held on July 6th.
that they’ve seen “less people than expected,” though 1,700 people showed up to apply to be extras.
According to Guardamuro, though the announcement requested mostly dark-haired types, “There will be some blondes.” The casting director avoided confirming what

Very interesting news, especially since this design seems to resemble a certain Tower in Westerosi-history quite a bit… or it least it could fit to some extent.
“There will be some blondes”. This seems to indicate that this is Westeros rather than Essos, most likely Dorne (Stony Dornish) or Oldtown (Blonde due to being populated by men and women from the reach).
Blonde is particularly interesting since if this location would really indicate a part of Dorne, it has to be one with a partially blonde population, which only the Stony Dronish are. Now which House is Stony Dornish and is affiliated with a strange tower: Dayne.
I would either say it´s really ToJ and a flashback or it´s some kind of “lighthouse” on a island located before Oldtown
where Sam etc will witness the Greyjoy-Fleet beginning their assault on the city
It could really be ToJ. Look at this panormanic shot, it just has the right desolate atmosphere for
the showdown between Eddard Stark, Howland Reed, Martyn Cassel etc and the Kingsguard
This may be an oddball idea, since we’ve had no indication that the story’s going there yet in the books or in the show, but after googling this place, and seeing a prominent rock cliff and an adjacent sea, I’d love to see them blend this and some CGI to create Casterly Rock and Lannisport. (There will be blondes, after all).
Take the tower as is, add CGI to double/triple the height from far away, then all the fight scenes will be up close and only require low shots of the tower.
Looks like ToJ. No idea why they feel the need to show what went on there beyond Ned and Lyanna. Has no relevance to the show and it won’t be done justice as no one will know nor care about the characters or fully understand why they’re doing what they are. Hope it’s just not another thing to hang an action scene on. That was my major issue with Season 5.
If it’s the ToJ used as a location for characters or plot to unfold then that’s fine and they can reference what went on there and allude to Ned’s promise. Recreating the whole fight outside of there when none of the characters will mean anything (including Ned who will have to be recast) seems a waste of screentime when they’ve already got enough to cram in. Still hoping the apparent Dayne casting is for a Jaime flashback to remind him of what being a Kingsguard is about. Also quite worried of the potential of staying in Dorne considering the car crash it was last season.
Thanks for that image. It most certainly could be the Tower of Joy.
It’s been reported that the extras of Peniscola will be slaves:
Almería won’t be Tower of Joy IMO because in the casting call for that spot they asked for people with mediterranean-dark skin or even black and tall people.
It’s not a big surprise that not many people came to the last casting calls. They were released pretty late, only or two days before the casting and the conditions were pretty harsh: people tall and with dark hair in Navarra (in the North of Spain they have usually light hair); and people tall with really dark skin or as I said even black people in Almería, and most of the people there have mediterranean skin, a bit darker than usual white, but not at all black or even South-America/Obama mid dark skin.
Not reliable source. They may be slaves, but that is just guessing due to the dark skin conditions required
“Casting director Rafael Guardamuro told abc.es that they’ve seen ‘less people than expected\'”
That place could be ToJ if they film there without extras, just the 10 warriors. But as I said the casting call for extras doesn’t fit with the description of the area of the ToJ
Guys there is zero confirmation that the ToJ or Arthur Dayne will be shown at all. This is all supposition/ wishful thinking and is exactly what gets the fandom riled up with false expectations. You’re only setting yourselves up to be grossly disappointed later, followed by the customary accusing D&D of ruining “your” show. Have we learned nothing from LSH?
I wish they had more details on what was being used, the lighthouse, tower or battery! All three could be used or none if they just use the terrain itself.
If they do use the buildings both El Torreón de Mesa Roldan and Batería de Mesa Roldán would make great Tower of Joy locations! The Mesa Roldan Lighthouse could make for the basis of Hightower in Oldtown as well.
What’s wrong with a little speculation? Must life be so dull that we shouldn’t consider or discuss anything that doesn’t have
There are some compelling signs that the Tower of Joy will be in the show, such as a casting call matching the description of Arthur Dayne, and now this shooting location resembling the description of the Tower and its surrounding area.
Seriously, don’t be a wet blanket. Let’s have some fun and speculate.
That looks as TOJ as TOJ could be. I really hope they’re showing this. This location plus that casting call for one of the best swordsmen in Europe is certainly good circumstantial evidence.
Unless this tower is the only location in Almeria, the fact that they’re casting extras isn’t really an argument against this being ToJ.

This. Speculation is part of the fun of this fandom. I don’t get why it bothers people.
There hasn’t been any direct confirmation, but the casting call so strongly hints at
that it’s more likely him than not. And although he could be included in scenes other than
The Tower of Joy, it’s likely they’re doing this scene because they’re looking for ‘the best swordsman in Europe’ for the role, and therefore will be filming some kind of action scene. It seems like a likely educated guess we are getting that scene, perhaps through Bran.
Whoa, that’s a stunning vista! Count me joyous.
Don’t really care for the TOJ scene if this is going to be it,never cared for it in the books or Lyanna and Rhaegar’s story as a whole,i know it’s somehow important to the plot but i still can’t bear to care for characters that were alive ages ago before the main story sorry, still i guess it’s cool for the people that liked that part .
I’ve learned I’m very, very bad at speculation. In fact, if you want to be wrong, agree with me on anything.
That being said, I’m kind of hoping we get the ToJ. It’s established in ADWD that Bran’s learning how to use the Worldwide Wierwood Web. Having him see whatever happened there could be interesting. Regardless of who may or may not have been born there or who promised who what, it was something that affected his father’s life in a huge, huge way.
THAT being said, if it turns out to be some kind of Westerosi gas station I won’t be upset. Surprised, but not upset.
Why does everyone (or part of everyone) think we’ll see the Tower of Joy through Bran? Doesn’t Bran need a weirwood tree to see things? And I’m 98% sure there’s no weirwood tree at the Tower of Joy. Sooo… I’m confused.
The Citadel. Especially considering it’s right on the ocean. TOJ isn’t (in the book anyway.)
I was thinking…. what if Jon…..dreams about the ToJ, and finds out that way (likely via Bran giving him that dream via WeirwoodFi?)
Not in the show. Remember Bran’s visions in season four.
In the television show, Bran doesn’t need a weirwood to see visions. I don’t think that’s even explicitly said to be the only means of visions in the books either. On show, He’s already seen visions of scenes that occurred like Ned incarcerated. He’s also seen scenes that haven’t happened yet like the dragons flying over King’s Landing. No weirwoods were involved in the sight of course,
So this is the fifth tower of joy and eighth citadel lol.
My money is on TOJ. Ever since they released the casting info I have suspected they will do some character simplification like they have in the past. I’d bet good money on them dropping everyone other than Dayne, Ned, and Reed when they do the TOJ scene. The others serve little purpose to the show narrative. No one will know who they are and it won’t matter much either. Simplifying it to just Dayne guarding the tower and confronted by Ned and Howland makes it an easier narrative to tell for the show audience who is unfamiliar with what goes on here. Especially since we know from the source material Howland does something significant with Dayne to prevent Ned from being killed. Showing the other men with Ned and the other 2 Kingsguard just killing each other is pointless for an audience who will have no idea who they are to begin with.
Also possible Meera tells him this story. Like the book.
The show has barely begun to establish rules of Bran’s vision abilities, beyond touching a weirwood and seeing all kinds of stuff, including the Night’s King lair beyond the wall and Ned in the black cells. It’ll be interesting, then, to see how the visions come about and into play. My guess, is that the show will simplify it down to just touching and being connected to the trees opening up an omnipotent view, no seeing through tree faces required. Which…eh…it’d still be nice to see Bran play Old Gods through one of em, maybe he sees through the trees the very present? While past and future events are fair game?
Backing up Paul. I love speculation. I hate the silly “Confirmed” meme.
A vague casting call or location is discovered. Someone links it to a specific character or location. Someone else ties to to some fan theory and adds “Confirmed” followed by “Get Hype.”
That leads to people actually thinking this wild, usually off target, speculation has actual merit.
Agree. If we get the Tower of Joy, it will be a simplified scene as you describe.
Could be Tower of Joy – with CGI making it more tower-like and the existing structure acting as an entrance.
Or it could be connected to the Dothraki horde that has taken Dany. That’s actually what I thought when I first saw it.
Or even if he did need a weirwood (which I agree, so far the show has not been running with that idea), there can be a weirwood anywhere the show wants there to be one.
With CGI it might be even Drogon’s chamber pot… Dragon poo confirmed! No hype!
Meera doesn’t know about the ToJ. Only Jojen knew, because he had a dream.
Who do you suspect the casting call for an experienced swordsman (the “paragon of knighthood”) with a famous sword is?
Making other people believe it’s confirmed is part of the fun.
“And the mystery knight should win the tourney, defeating every challenger, and name the wolf maid the queen of love and beauty.”
“She was,” said Meera, “but that’s a sadder story.”
“Are you certain you never heard this tale before, Bran?” asked Jojen.
“Your lord father never told it to you?” Bran shook his head.
I think that ToJ is going to happen this season as a way to visually connect young HR to current HR/HS and shed some light on his real motivations in King’s Landing.
Would love to see Ned again – even in flashback form.
