Almería extras casting announced, Game of Thrones Spain filming schedule set 

Though reports initially stated it would begin a day later, it has been confirmed that

will be casting extras for season 6 in Almería July 8th and 9th.

ModExpor International, who handles the show’s extras throughout Spain, posted an announcement today with the casting dates, GoT’s shooting dates this fall, and the very specific requirements for the people hoping to appear on

Casting will take place on both days, starting at 8:00AM, at the Pabellon Moises Ruiz in Almería. However, due to the large amount of people clamoring to be extras, the message states they can “select only 1200 men and 1200 women.” The announcement further says that, “the selection will be made exclusively on the morning of July 8.”

Given that the casting is running on both the 8th and 9th, it sounds like 2400 is only the initial screening number. This makes sense, since ModExpor can’t see the several thousand that may show up. The final chosen number of extras may be a lot smaller.

They’re searching for men and women ages 18-65 who are dark Mediterraneans or black. There’s a general height requirement, with ModExpor prefering men at least 175 cm (5’9″) and women at least 170 cm (5’7″).

The notice above also mentions they prefer candidates who are:

Men with short/medium/long hair, women with long hair

Natural & uniform hair colors required and no blonde, pink, purple, red, green or blue hair- only dark and brown colors.

Men should be prepared to grow out or cut their facial hair.

No tattoos permitted- staff will be checking arms and legs.

Extras will have to be available from October 10th through the 23th. While some of that time might be rehearsal, it’s safe to assume most of that will be shooting (and of course the usual prep time including hair & makeup).

With this new info, the fall location schedule is coming together.

is filming in Almería, though rumors have been flying for a while now. The extras casting may throw a kink in some of those theories, as these requirements are so strict. Dothraki, Dorne, Essos at large and of course scenes that don’t require extras are still on the table. What do you think, readers?

I don’t think this is necessarily Dothraki. The last few extra callouts definitely seemed like it, but here they’re looking specifically for black or dark-Mediteranian skinned men and women. From what we saw of the Dothraki in season 1, this doesn’t exactly fit. Unless they’re trying to add more race variety into the background. I hope it’s Dorne and that we’ll see a bit more of it in season 6 than just the Water Gardens and some grasslands.

What about Seville? Hear anything about that, Sue?

The requirement for very dark Mediterranean or black skin color is very intriguing. Of the ones we have seen already, what location will require a lot of black characters and no white or fairer-skinned types at all? Could be a coastal Dorne region (but why the need for so many people?) or somewhere in Essos, more likely. But not Dothraki, since they are not black.

So they are staying nearly 2 months in Spain! 😮

Assuming Girona is Oldtown and/ or new KL exteriors (will we see Casterly Rock?) it makes sense they would film for two full weeks. Hearing that they will film for 2 weeks in Almería as well makes me think it will be a location of some importance in Season 6.

Navarre’s red desert sands feel like Tower of Joy Dorne to me, but Almería could be a nice fit as well! Cabo de Gata-Nijar Natural Park could be a nice coastal landing spot and the Tabernas Desert could be nice location for the Boneway or Prince’s Pass if Dany progresses that far…

I don’t get a strong feeling one way or another for Alcazaba de Almería, but Faro de Mesa Roldán feels more like Hightower to me than Dorne….

The translation is not correct at all, the casting said they are looking for regular mediterraneans, dark skinned people and black people. I think is a city of Essos and/or something with the dothrakis.

High Sparrow, Ah, I see. Yes, the mixture of regular Mediterraneans, dark-skinned, and black, certainly suggests an Essosi location, including Dothrakis.
