Friendship My friend’s grandma passed away. How to comfort her?

My close friend who’s in the States right now just lost her grandma. I’ve known the grandma ever since and I grew somewhat close to her as well. She was a great woman. She was full of joy and is the most God-fearing woman I know. It’s really a shame what has happened to her and I honestly don’t know how to comfort my friend on this especially since we’re miles away. A foreign advice site says that the best way to console someone who’s going through loss is to constantly be there for them even if you’re long distance. This doesn't seem to work though and I need some more advice on this.
