What happens when a band based out of Boston performs in Montreal? Better yet, what happens when that band is the Dropkick Murphys – who are proud supporters of the Boston Bruins – performing in “enemy territory”? The answer, of course, is a little chaos.
On Saturday, the band played in front of 50,000 people in Day 1 of the Heavy Montreal Music Festival. Most of those in attendance are fans of the Bruins, arch-rivals, the Montreal Canadiens. And when it came down to business, the Dropkick’s decided to have a little fun at the expense of Habs fans.
During their set, Ken Casey, the band’s lead singer, declared his Black and Gold fandom to a round of boo birds. They weren’t done, though as Ken’s son, Liam, was invited onto the set.
Liam wasn’t alone, however, as he brought a doll on stage dressed in a Canadiens uniform. That doll’s lifespan was short lived as Liam proceeded to throw the doll down on the stage – with impact – and ripped the head off, which of course resulted in more heat coming from the Montreal crowd.
Here’s a look at the video from Ken Casey’s Facebook page:
Of course, Habs fans had the last laugh when they downed the Bruins in seven games during the Eastern Conference semifinals. And this is far from the only jab in the rivalry this summer. A few weeks ago, Brad Marchand declared his “hatred” for Tomas Plekanec, who in turn expressed his thoughts on Marchand.
The Bruins and Habs will have their first meeting of the 2014-15 NHL season on October 16th at the Bell Centre. But it’s safe to assume that the two teams will trade a few more verbal punches beforehand.
