I don't see anything wrong with the princesses dress style. In the original little mermaid, Ariel was naked, didn't even have the purple sea shells. Snow White is the only princess who we really can't tell if she has cleavage. I think everybody's mature enough to handle the tiny bit of cleavage we see on the other princesses.

I think everyone is pretty decent. When I was younger I didn't notice or care but now Jasmine gets on my nerve. I couldn't choose what to pick.

Ariel actually dresses appropriate for a mermaid, some mermaids actually don't even wear seashell bra's they just cover their chest with their hair. There's nothing wrong with showing cleavage and skin, it's not like they're just one stitch away from being butt naked or something. The human body is a beautiful thing, I mean I'm not saying I'm for girls walking around almost naked. There's nothing wrong with showing some skin just as long as they don't go too far.

Right now I am just worried about my girls showing too much skin because of pedophiles...I would not even let my 4 yr old dress like Jasmine because of the thought of pervs looking at her...But even when they are teenagers I do not want them putting their goods on show...you can be proud of your body without advertising it and looking like a skank

They don't have to go all out but showing a little skin ain't gonna hurt. I mean if they're wearing shorts that look like they should be underwear or a shirt that looks like it should be a bra or a bathing suit top than yeah don't let them out. Showing off a little skin can't hurt, just be careful on the amount. I mean if you raise them right they'll know the right amout of skin to show.

@KataraLover, actually all mermaids are completely naked except for their tail. Ariel is just wearing a bra because it's a Disney film, it's not like she's being modest lol.

I dislike noticing how small Tiana's waist is at times, I can get a bit insecure. But I wouldn't get all hyped up and starve myself because of Disney. That's kind of overdoing it.

People should be able to dress how they like. No-one has any right to say Jasmine's outfit is "slutty" because it's how she chose to dress. How does choosing to wear a crop top make you a bad person?

I think it's a bit of dangerous message because Jasmine in particular is HIGHLY sexualized for a character that young girls look up to. She was after all designed by a forty year old man, so let's keep in mind, that she's a reflection of how a middle-aged man wants a teenage character to dress, and the image is being projected to children. I really hate the whole "I can dress how I want, I'm empowered" thing. If you're so empowered, why aren't men dressed in skimpy outfits when we all know they hold the majority of the actual power in the world?

if they weren't "princesses" then I wouldn't care but since they are there should be a higher standard for their attire. We live in a modern day but you don't see any princess showing off skin or too much cleavage why should a cartoon character that little kids would look up too

i don't think it's inappropriate. it's the parents job to teach kids 'right from wrong', not a movie company. most kids don't really notice things like that and if they do they'll know that the characters are clearly older teenagers/adults (with the exception of Snow White but she doesn't show much cleavage anyway... she barely has any cleavage!) and kids obviously will know that adults can do things that kids can't. by the time they've grown up and notice trivial things like this they'll be old enough to know better if you've raised them right.

I agree with Mongoose09. I don't think is inapproprate. Also It's part of culrture. Jasmine is dressed apporiate for her culture for example. and also disney is child friendly.

In my experience, children tend to imitate what they see. Doesn't matter if they understand the implications. Doesn't matter where the source of their inspiration comes from. If all they see is half naked women being objectified then we (as a society) have approved that behavior and by projecting it on the big screen we glorify women who use their sexuality to get what they want.

So, even if children do or don't know the difference they want to be like us. Monkey see monkey do.

I agree with Mongoose09. It's the parents' job to teach children about stuff; not movies. It's also the parents' job to teach children the difference between reality and movie fantasy. I know my mom tried to explain to me that people don't fly like Peter Pan. I didn't understand at that time but some days later, I finally did. I am a conservative girl so maybe a little bit of cleavage would be fine for me. Ariel, Jasmine, Pocahontas, and Tiana are fine. They weren't like Jessica Rabbit whose cleavage and boobs were in your face the whole entire time. XP

@Mongoose and Faya

It takes a village to raise a child. It's okay if people disagree on such things as appropriate or inappropriate language, dress, activities etc. I assume you two believe that a woman should be able to flaunt her body anyway she sees fit without being harassed or objectified or slandered or criticized...But the world isn't that simple.

There are consequences for the choices you make. As an adult, as a child, as a parent. But to sit there at your computers and blithely claim that it is solely the parents responsibility to raise their children is naive to the 100th degree. Have your actions never influenced someone else?

It sounds like you are blaming parents for all the ills in the world. Well, if that's the case then we need to lock up all the parents of all the criminals in the world too, no?

When I was a child I didn't care for the clothes. I just love Jasmine, and never want to wear an outfit inspired by her.

TigerRanma picked I don't really care one way 或者 the other:
I grew up to dress conservatively because of my mom. When I was little, I saw it sort of like a bad thing that Ariel and Jasmine were showing their belly buttons, kinda like "Oooooh, look what they're wearing." Though I remember wanting to be Ariel for Halloween but my family didn't know how I could dress up as a mermaid. (maybe there were no Ariel costumes at the time?) I'm so used to Ariel and Jasmine now. I don't imagine Disney making a heroine showing off her belly button again though.

Children doesn't pay much attention in clothes. I never said "Oh,my God,look what she's wearing", I just loved the princesses. I don't think is bad to show Jasmine's and Ariel's belly, as long as this is their culture's clothing. I mean, could Jasmine or Ariel be dressed in different clothing? I don't think so.

There is definitely nothing wrong with wearing spaghetti straps or bikini, it's also part of real life too, like look at all the contestants in Miss Universe! They wear bikinis too, so what's wrong with Ariel and Jasmine's outfits?
