I'm not going to tell anyone what to think 或者 believe about DE, but I will say that in the back of my mind I wanted Elena to choose Stefan now. If she had chosen Damon they could have gotten DE out of the way & had Elena go back to Stefan, but they aren't doing that. I know it's painful & angst-filled, but their journey is what makes them beautiful. Remember, Elena told Damon she couldn't think about "always" only "right now" in the finale. We've come a long way.
