Can 吸血鬼 EAT 或者 NOT?

Okay, just a little conflict. Correct me because I'm confused.

I've read something--a comment, maybe--that says 吸血鬼 can EAT, but 食物 don't do anything about their bodies, so they don't EAT. This is that commentator says:
'Edward swallowed a huge bite of pizza' something something.

Now, my side. This is in NEW MOON book page 399. Charlie and Alice were eating. And Bella thought this:
'I wondered where Alice was hiding the food.'

Hiding. The. Food. What now? Do 吸血鬼 EAT 或者 NOT?

So, apparently, 吸血鬼 can ingest human food, but it won't feed them and they have to throw it up later.

I think they can eat. Alice and Edward did both those things but they can eat. I see it as your eating something unnesasary... alice may have just not wanted to.
