If all she wanted was marriage, then yes, should would have been better off.
But she wanted love, and she would not have experienced it if she did marry Wisley. Though her relationshp with Tom didn't work out, she would have had a whole different life if she would have married Mr. Wisley.

Although Jane didn't love Mr. Wisley she would have been better off according to the standards of that era. As for love alone then no, she should have followed her heart only. It is always implied that her family was poor, but they had servents and lived in a very nice home and she attended fancy dress balls etc. I don't get that part. Does anyone know how much money they truly had in her family?

they make a very bad couple, and she would have just solved her families problems by causing herself pain by living the rest of her days wondering what could have been if she had married someone she loved.

They are fine as friends.

She didn't love him. I don't think you should marry someone if you're not in love. Even if she could have grown to love him, you don't get married then fall in love. that is a little backwards.

For pratical purposes, she would have been better off with Wisley, but what is a marriage without true, intense, strong enough to die for love? Nothing more than a convenient, platonic relationship.

Jane could never have lived with someone without love. i think thats all there is to say.
