of friends. So, what it’s like when they hang out together?

Celebuzz caught up with Zendaya, who appeared as a member of Swift’s squad in her “Bad Blood” music video, to find out just what a casual night with the singer is like. According to the 

star, Swift is “really, really sweet” — even when she’s busy juggling a hectic work schedule and doesn’t really have the time to chill.

“Honestly, the only time I’ve hung out with her is during her video. I haven’t actually hung out with her that much,” Zendaya told us. “I think the cool thing is that any time I was ever around her when we did hang out, she was super-duper nice to myself, to my parents, and to anyone who was with me. She made me feel very comfortable. She made sure I was taken care of, and that’s really cool.”

She continued, “That’s really cool to see because someone like that—who is very powerful in the music industry—she doesn’t need to be nice. She’s really, really sweet. I really appreciated that.”

While they might not hang out as often, Zendaya and Swift do see eye-to-eye on a lot of things. As two self-proclaimed feminists, the girls strongly believe in equality between the sexes.

“I think to be a feminist, in any sense, is just to believe in equality. To believe in the power of a woman is just as much of the power of anyone else. I think a feminist is someone who support other women, is someone who appreciates other women just as much as themselves,” Zendaya said. “I just think there’s just a lot of one-sided feminism and misinterpretation of feminism. It’s not anti anything else. It’s just allowing women a place and saying that we are just as good a anyone else. We are good enough, and I think girl power is so important.”

She continued, “If you look at the industry, you can see that the people who are killing it are ladies. Nicki Minaj, Taylor Swift, and all these really powerful women that are killing it. What else can you say? We’re taking over.”

Celebrities Speak Their Minds About Feminism

Zendaya, who will be joining Mattel to host the Rock ‘N Royals Concert Experience at the Hollywood Palladium on Sept. 26, also stressed the importance of women of color having a voice in the industry. With Viola Davis recently making history as the first black woman to win an Emmy for Best Actress in a Drama, now’s a good of a time as any for Hollywood to acknowledge people from all walks of life.

“It’s all about support. It’s about support people of all ages, race and culture with different backgrounds,” Zendaya, whose father is black and mother is white, told us. “We, especially as young people, definitely have to support each other and build each other up.”

“It’s not common that you see African-American people in any movie at all! But I think what’s really cool is that we do have a lot of people who are up-and-comers,” the 19-year-old said. “I think that’s really cool. It’s definitely something that needs to be talked about and discussed, and it’s okay to have a discussion and talk about things and to learn.”

As someone whose culture was discriminated against, most infamously by Giuliana Rancic when she said her dreadlocks looked like it smelled of “patchouli oil or weed,” Zendaya noted that she’s glad Hollywood is taking measures to diversify. Case in point: having a Barbie that looks just like her.

Recently, it was announced that Zendaya’s look from February’s Academy Awards, where she wore a white Vivienne Westwood gown with dreadlocks, will be immortalized in doll form.

“When I was in my Barbie stage, I didn’t really have Barbies that looked like me or Barbies that I related to,” she said. “I’m really, really excited to see and be a part of that future, because it’s something really important for people like my niece and nephew to have that.”
