Chapter 1: Aboard the ship
The morning sun was rising upon the land of Egypt making the Great Nile river shine, the hot winds blowing through the desert creating small sand tornadoes no larger than an asp, and the birds flying through the sky to find their morning breakfast. Beyond the Nile lies the Mediterranean sea, and upon the surface of this large body of water there was the ship Osiris sailing away from the docks of Turkey after the crew getting their trade of 金牌 for exotic spices. Within the ship's 禁闭室, brig, 双桅横帆船 lied a young boy. He woke from the sound of the waves brushing against the ship. “Wh-Where am I?” he asked himself quietly while brushing some dirt out of his crimson and black hair. He looked around and saw nothing but empty cells with nothing in them except some straw and dirt. “Well looks like 你 finally woke up kid.” 说 a figure. The boy slightly turned head and saw a guard. He felt scared and took a few steps back. “Who are you? Why am I here?” the boy asked with a mixture of fear in his throat. The guard 说 nothing as he opened the door and tightly wrapped a rope on the boy's wrists. “Ow! That hurts.” the boy exclaimed. The guard pulled the rope tighter making the boy release a small yelp in pain. The guard made a cruel chuckle, he looked straight at the small boy and explained in a cruel voice “Oh, it's gonna get a lot worse once we dock into Egypt.” The boy 说 nothing, instead he looked at his wrists that were turning red from the tightness of the rope. “All right 你 little runt!” the guard blurted out. “Seto-sama needs to take a look at you! Now move!” He ordered. The guard pushed the boy urging him to 移动 up the stairs.
As the boy walked out from the darkness of the brig, he looked around and saw that upon the ship were large men at work. All of which were wearing the same cream colored kilt and 头巾, 头盔 to protect their heads from the hot sun. From the corner of his eye he could see some were cleaning the deck, some were taking large barrels downstairs, and the rest were either standing against the mast 或者 practicing with their swords. “Move it!” the guard yelled once more, making everybody stare at the them. The boy looked down at his feet letting his blond locks brush against his cheeks. He felt really strange since 更多 than half of the crew on the deck were looking at him. “Seto-sama!” the guard yelled. The boy looked up and saw standing at the helm of the ship was a tall Egyptian priest. The priest walked coolly down from the helm and looked at the young prisoner. “What is your name?” he asked in a cold voice. The boy felt his spine tingle at the sound of the priest's voice. “My name is Yugi.” he answered softly trying not to look up at the priest's lifeless blue eyes. “Look up when answering a high official of the palace!” the guard yelled at Yugi pulling back his crimson and black hair, causing Yugi to jerk his head up. Poor Yugi yelped louder in pain. “Let him go. After all we shouldn't damage the Pharaoh's gift.” Seto ordered coldly to the guard.“Yes sir” The guard 说 in a disappointed voice as he released Yugi's hair. “Now what shall we do with him Seto-sama? Shall we put him to work?” the guard asked. Seto looked down at Yugi, as Yugi was gently rubbing his head from the pain. “No not now let him work after sunset, till then put him with the other prisoner.” “Other prisoner?” Yugi thought. “But there's no one else in the cells.”
The guard roughly pulled the ropes making Yugi almost fall. Some of the guards laughed at him and he could even hear Seto make a small chuckle. The guard took Yugi downstairs, but it was not the same set of stairs that he went up. These stairs were near the mast on the deck, but the ones that Yugi went up were near the captain's quarters.
This 禁闭室, brig, 双桅横帆船 was much similar to the 前一个 ones Yugi was in. He looked around and saw one figure in a cell, but it was too dark to see the figure's face. “What are 你 staring at runt?” the guard questioned. Yugi quickly turned his eyes away from the figure and answered timidly “It's just I saw someone else in a cell.” The guard looked from where Yugi was staring. “Oh yes, that's another boy we found. Well I'm sure 你 both won't be lonely.” he 说 as he roughly pushed Yugi into the cell causing Yugi to land on his face, and the guard quickly locking the door. “Well have fun, because 你 both have work to do once Ra has set.” The guard explained as he walked out from the brig.
“Why do they have to be so mean to us?” the figure asked. Yugi looked up and saw a young boy curled up into a ball near the corner. “Who are you?” the boy asked keeping his face down as he were too scared to even look at Yugi. Yugi walked and sat down near the boy. “I'm Yugi. What's your name?” The boy didn't answer. “Are 你 alright?” Yugi asked. Still no answer, nothing but silence and the soft sound of the gulls filled the cell. “Wait, what am I saying? Of course he isn't 'alright'. Man I feel so dumb just asking that.” Yugi yelled in his head. “I'm Ryou” the boy finally answered while bringing his head up and facing Yugi. “Sorry that I didn't answer your question.” he apologized politely. Yugi shook his head “No it's alright, really. 你 were just scared right?” Ryou nodded.
Yugi looked at Ryou. He could tell that Ryou was about his age 16, maybe 17. Ryou's hair was snow white reaching down past his shoulders and a little bit past his shoulder blades, he had pale skin with a light 桃子 color, his eyes were 浓情巧克力 brown, and he was much taller that Yugi, but 更多 shorter than Seto. “Where are 你 from Yugi?” asked Ryou. “I'm from Constantinople. Why?” he asked. “Well it's just 你 don't look Egyptian, plus I was also wondering if 你 were traded and sold onto the ship.” Ryou explained. Yugi raised his eyebrows and wondered if Ryou was traded and sold. “Well to tell 你 truth, I don't really know how I got on the ship.” he 说 bringing his head down. Ryou tilted his head and had a wondering look upon his face. “Well what I do remember is that I was walking through the shops to buy food. Once I was able to buy the required 食物 I was readying to go, but 由 the time the sun was beginning to set. And everyone was rushing to get home.” “Why were they rushing?” Ryou asked. “Well during the night the streets are a dangerous place, because some say hieves dressed as beggars will come out and trick, ambush, even kill people to get their money. I wasn't able to go my regular way 首页 because the streets were crowded so I had to take a different route. I was getting worried because I have never seen the 街, 街道 before in my life. I knew I was making great timing, but unfortunately two large thieves jumped out from a dark alley. One was holding me down, while the other took my 食物 and whatever money I had left. The last thing I remembered was that both of thieves punched me so hard that I went flying, and my head hit the alley 墙 causing me to lose consciousness.” Ryou's jaw slightly dropped. “How horrible. Still that doesn't explain how 你 ended up here.” Ryou replied. “I know. Maybe someone found me and sold me to the ship, just so they can get a few shiny coins.” Yugi suggested with anger in his voice. A few moments had passed and Yugi was waiting for Ryou to tell his story, but silence had creped into the brig. Neither boy 说 a word to each other. Yugi kept his head down and wondered about Ryou's 问题 before he explained his story. “ I wonder why Ryou won't tell me his story. Was he sold into slavery?” Yugi wondered letting his mind focus, yet at the same time waiting for Ryou to respond. “I don't even want to know what's worse, being ambushed in the night and having your money and 食物 taken, 或者 having to do difficult work for the rest of your life with no free will.” Yugi opened his mouth, but was unable to say anything since he and Ryou both heard the sound of footsteps coming and the jingling of keys. Ryou and Yugi stepped back into the corner, they both wondered if that same guard would come back and yell at them. But it was not the guard, instead it was priest Seto. “Alright 你 two must both get to work.” Seto 说 in his soft, yet cold tone as he opened the door. Both of the boys walked up to Seto and extended their wrists ready to be tied up again. Seto simply looked at there hands in a confused way, and then quietly laughed. “There's no point in me binding your wrists and dragging 你 two up the stairs.” he explained. Ryou and Yugi looked at each other then back at Seto. “Now 你 two are to wash the entire main deck as the crew eats.” He explained as he walked tall and proud up the stairs to the middle of the deck. Ryou and Yugi looked around and Ryou grumbled silently to himself. Two guards handed Ryou and Yugi buckets filled to the 最佳, 返回页首 with water and old rags. “Now I expect this deck to be cleaned 由 the time 晚餐 is over. If it isn't finished then 你 won't get any food. Now work, I shall be in my quarters.” Seto 说 as he walked towards the quarters, briskly shutting the door. Ryou and Yugi both looked at each other. Ryou let out a sigh “We'll never finish in time.” Ryou complained. “Only if we just stand and do nothing, but complain. So let's begin.” Yugi 说 as he got down on his knees, wetting the rag, and began scrubbing.
Poor Yugi and Ryou having to scrub the entire main deck. I mean if 你 look at a picture 或者 have ever been on a ship it's pretty big. Also if you're wondering where Constantinople is, it's in Turkey. Istanbul was originally named Constantinople and if I remember correctly it was quite the trading city back then. Plus 你 will learn about Ryou's past in a different chapter maybe three 或者 four.
