Warriors (Novel Series) 问题

In Bluestar's Prophecy, Thrushpelt thinks Bluefur's kits are his. That would mean they mated even though they weren't mates? Is that normal?

I dunno, maybe it's not considered something only mates do, 或者 they had a forbidden love?!? No jk, still, it was something which always puzzled me.

I know he 说 that, but before Bluefur's friend had gone all gossipy to him and so he approaches Bluefur asking her if the kits were his. After she explains, he tells her that.
