I like-a-the team work. A crazed shotgunman is always going to need a machine-gun wielding guy to cover him as he heads for the flag.

Um, could you add the co-op option? I actually prefer that all the people work together to fight ridiculous odds against NPC opponents than any kind of deathmatch. Hexen, the Unreal Tournaments, the various Dooms, Serious Sam: these are all some of the best shooter experiences I've had, because of the fantastic co-op play.

You might also consider adding some of the other common multi-player modes - capture the flags and the like.

Capture the flag is always very fun :)
