TWILIGHT
"B+" Rating 由 Robert W. Hammerle
Catherine Hardwicke's "Twilight" reflects all the wondrous awkwardness and charm of teenage angst. It is innocent, beguiling, stumbling and romantic. It makes 你 long for the days when most of us suppressed desires to become teenage vampires!
For those of 你 who are clueless concerning the plot of the "Twilight" 图书 series, it follows the tale of a group of young 吸血鬼 and their relationship with the local populace. To the extent anyone would dismiss such a premise as lightweight fluff reflects to a great extent how out of touch one is with today's youth.
Kristen Stewart, who stood out as the earthy waif in Sean Penn's memorable "Into the Wild" (2007), plays Bella Swan, a young girl who leaves Phoenix to live with her divorced father in the State of Washington when her mother decides to relocate with her new husband, a minor league baseball player. Her father (Billy Burke), a small town sheriff, is as excited to have her back as he is incapable of emotionally 展示 it.
Arriving at her new school, she is instantly mesmerized 由 a fellow student, Edward Cullen, played with understated ferocity 由 the incredibly good-looking Robert Pattinson. Pattinson and Stewart begin an exotic social dance around one another, which culminates in a pivotal scene where he saves her from certain death in a car crash that clearly demonstrates that he is anything but normal.
Without giving anything materially away, Mr. Pattinson's group of 吸血鬼 belong to a family that feeds only on 动物 to satisfy their blood lust. Despite that fact, darkness begins to descend on the entire local community as people start to 显示 up dead as a result of suspected animal attacks. Thereafter, 吸血鬼 turn on 吸血鬼 as humans become allied with one side.
I must admit that there are some marvelous dramatic moments as Ms. Stewart is put in harm's way as a result of the mutual commitment between her and Mr. Pattinson. What fascinated me about "Twilight" is that it is one of the rarest of Hollywood 电影院 in the sense that it is directly aimed at teenage girls, an almost forgotten Hollywood demographic.
Clearly, as much as 你 can rightfully praise 电影院 such as "Knocked-Up" (2007), "Superbad" (2007), "Pineapple Express" (2008) and this year's wholesomely demented "Role Models," young women are an afterthought as a target audience. Like it 或者 not, these films are aimed at young men, and the various studios count on women to go along as their long-suffering dates.
"Twilight" is different. It is demonstrably obvious from the emotional response of the many teenage girls attending this movie that they not only thought it was splendid, but clearly viscerally related to the various relationships portrayed on the screen. Following that thought, I don't see how a so-called adult can properly review this film without being in the company of young people anymore than one could adequately review a Tyler Perry film without sitting in the midst of a largely African American audience.
Having seen this film with my Saudi exchange student, "Z," it was clear that he and the other teenagers in the audience knew exactly what was going on. All of them exhibited a joyful reaction to this fine little film from beginning to end.
给 Ms. Hardwicke's wonderful work in 前一个 films such as "Thirteen" (2003) and "Lords of Dogtown" (2005), it is not surprising that she would capture the essence of the convoluted nature of teenage existence. Languid in its pace and extraordinarily beautifully photographed, she has produced a poetic reflection of teenage romance.
As I left the theater and contemplated the surprising dramatic quality of "Twilight," I was reminded of an old Mark Twain quote, "Youth is such a wonderful thing. What a pity that it is wasted on the young." Set aside your skepticism and go see "Twilight" and dare to experience the mixed blessings of being young again.

Touch me I'm cold, unable to control
Touch me I'm golden and wild as the wind blows
And tumbling, tumbling, don't go fascination
If just for tonight darling, let's get lost
If just for tonight darling, let's get lost
Let me come closer, I'm not your shadow
With our eyes shielded from the oncoming count
It's not hard for us to say what we should not
If just for tonight darling, let's get lost
If just for tonight darling, let's get lost
Touch me I'm cold, unable to control

Other lives, always tempted to trade
Will they hate me for all the choices I made
Will they stop when they see me again
I can’t stop now I know who I am
Now I’m all yours, I’m not afraid
And you’re all mine, say what they may
And all your 爱情 I’ll take to the grave
And all my life starts now
Tear me down, they can’t take 你 out of my thoughts
Under every scar there’s a battle I’ve lost
Will they stop when they see us again
I can’t stop now I know who I am
Now I’m all yours, I’m not afraid
And you’re all mine, say what they may
And all your 爱情 I’ll take to the grave
And all my life starts
I’m all yours, I’m not afraid

Up with your turret
Aren’t we just terrified
Shale, screen your worry
From what 你 won’t ever find
Don’t let it fool you
Don’t let it fool you, down
Down’s sitting round
Folds in the gown
Sea and the rock below
Cocked to the undertow
Bones, blood and teeth erode
With every crashing node
Wings wouldn’t help you
Wings wouldn’t help you, down
Death is around
Prayer in your smile
你 barely are blinking
Wagging your face around
When’d this just become
A mortal home
Ahhhh
Won’t, won’t, won’t, won’t
Won’t let 你 talk me
Won’t let 你 talk me, down
Will pull it taut
Nothing now
Aren’t we just terrified
Shale, screen your worry
From what 你 won’t ever find
Don’t let it fool you
Don’t let it fool you, down

When the thorn 衬套, 布什 turns white that’s when I’ll come home
I am going out to see what I can sow
And I don’t know where I’ll go
And I don’t know what I’ll see
But I’ll try not to bring it back 首页 with me
Like the morning sun your eyes will follow me
As 你 watch me wander, curse the powers that be
‘Cause all I want is here and now
But it’s already been and gone
Our intentions always last that bit too long
Far, far away, no voices sounding
No one around me and you’re still there
Far, far away, no choices passing
No time confounds me and you’re still there
In the full moon’s light I listen to the stream
And in between the silence hear 你 calling me
But I don’t know where I am
And I don’t trust who I’ve been
But if I come 首页 how will I ever leave
I am going out to see what I can sow
And I don’t know where I’ll go
And I don’t know what I’ll see
