Why is it that in the book-to-TV transition, Eric is the only main character that wasn't made 更多 likable/sympathetic?

They made Lafayette and Tara funny and gave them much bigger roles in the TV storyline.

Jason went from being a greedy, completely self-centered @$$hole into a much 更多 tolerable character that even goes so far as to defend his sister.

Bill was 给 credit for rescuing Sookie from Longshadow and is portrayed as much warmer than he came off in the books...

But, aside from the dubious implications of his behavior towards Godric, Eric has been made out to be much 更多 sadistic and conniving than he was in the novels - involving Loretta, torturing Lafayette, Sookie's attraction to him being construed as a result of the blood...

Does Alan Ball know something we don't about where the 图书 are headed? Why such a pro-Bill/anti-Eric stance?

I think it was a matter of him being completely opposite of Bill, in his actions and demeanor, sort of a "red herring" badguy/trouble maker while we are meant to 爱情 Bill's character. This of course will eventually be flipped upside down and the 粉丝 who have not read the 图书 will have the rug pulled out from under them when they find out what Bill has been hiding.

I think it'll change - Eric's change of character will (most probably) happen when he'll get closer to Sookie, so it will 显示 she is meaningful to him. so for now he's a jerk :)

And so far the only sweet thing Erics really done is the Godric thing but in the 图书 Gorics not even his maker! its annoying for the book 粉丝 and i hate that all the tv 粉丝 loooove bill... but i guess we will have to wait and find out what they do for season 3 since it doesnt appear that they are going to allow Eric to shine this time...

I disagree on the Bill thing - I liked him only after i read all the books.

If 你 read the 图书 and remember the first two books, Eric was pretty conniving and only out for himself and his territory. He became 更多 likable as he got closer to Sookie and that's what's happening in the 显示 too. I personally 爱情 Eric and have never thought of him as sadistic. He's 1000 years old and he goes after what he wants but protects what's his. He tortured Lafayette because he was selling V. He brought Lorena back because he wants Sookie. I think the 显示 is turning on Bill, making him boring and self-righteous and paving the way for Sookie and Eric to be together.

Granted his motivations haven't changed but his actions have, drastically, and all in ways that further alienate Sookie. He didn't torture any of her 老友记 in the books, for any reason. True he pursued her 由 less than scrupulous but it wasn't anywhere near the level the 显示 has him at. And the whole blood thing makes any attraction Sookie experiences towards him to now be perceived as superficial and drug-induced as opposed to her gradual warming to him in that she developed naturally in the books.

Ok he had amnesia when she developed an attraction for him in the book. He wasn't the real Eric. He didn't even know who he was. Eric 粉丝 I know 你 want Him and Sookie together, but even at all cost. Since when is it ok to go after someone who is taken. Bill is a great character and he loves Sookie. Bill should have done 更多 than 冲床 Eric last week. Alan Ball 说 the 显示 will be focused on BIL and SOOKIE's relationship. I'm sure they will have their ups and downs but in the end they will be together. He is not staying true to the book. Sookie never had a glowing hand. Eric needs to find his own girl.

Alan Ball just told everyone at Comic Con that the relationships WILL follow that of the books, meaning ERIC, Sookie and Bill.

Don't get me wrong, I like most of the changes, even Bill. I just don't think its been fair to Eric is all. And with Sookies whole hand glowy thing, it seems that the changes being made ar einfluenced 由 what happens later on the books. Maybe the pro-Bill bias is Ball's alluding to a future for BillxSookie beyond their forthcoming break-up.
