Emma Becker and Sutton Mercer (Alexandra Chando) are the identical twin daughters of former 爱人 Ted Mercer (Andy Buckley) and Annie Rebecca Sewell (Charisma Carpenter) conceived out of an affair their parents had 17 years prior to the series. Before the beginning of the show, the only person who knew about the girls was Alec Ryback (Adrian Pasdar), Ted’s best friend and the man responsible for splitting his daughters up out of 爱情 for his wife Kristin (Helen Slater), who has no idea he’s Sutton’s biological father and that there are twins.

In the episode “The Grave Truth,” Ted finds out about his other daughter Emma and tells both her and Sutton he’s their biological father. Rebecca had a plan which was to break up Ted’s marriage to Kristin in order to steal him for herself so they could be a family with their daughters. “Ted and me. My two twin daughters. The family that should’ve been.” Unlike Emma who had no clue, Sutton was fully aware that Rebecca was their biological mother yet she was also aware of their mother’s plans. What no one is aware of except Alec and Rebecca is that Thayer Ryback (Christian Alexander) murdered Theresa Lopez (Yara Martinez) and probably Derek Rodgers (Ben Elliott). The only people who are aware of Emma and Sutton being twins are their biological parents Ted and Rebecca, their half-sister 月桂树 Mercer (Allie Gonino), their best friend and stepsister Madeline Ryback (Alice Greczyn), brothers Dan and Ethan Whitehorse (Tyler Christopher, Blair Redford), and of course their stepfather Alec.

In addition to Kristin not knowing about Emma and Sutton being Ted’s daughters with Rebecca, their aunt and cousin Phyllis and 夏洛特 Chamberlin (Sydney Barrose and Kirsten Prout) still remain clueless about their nieces and cousins. Emma has been involved with both Thayer and Ethan just like Sutton. According to the show, Ted and Rebecca had an affair around the time he treated Justin Miller (Randy Wayne)’s mother who died as a result of him being distracted and not being careful and that was why he dated Laurel. Emma 或者 rather Sutton was rivals with a girl named Nisha Randall (Sharon Piere-Lewis) who was anxious to beat her no matter the cost.
