^ Apparently what angered most parents was a little kissing scene between Katniss and Peeta. Unlike Twilight where there is actually SEX. Yeah parent's oppose kissing, but not sex. The world is full of morons nowadays.

I think if parents are that worried about it, they haven't understood the books. Parents need to read between the lines and not get scared of some violence. This story is a different lifetime. Parents and teachers can easily use this book as a source to talk about some realities in the world. Geez parents, get over yourselves!

I didn't know it was inappropriate to kiss someone to make them feel better. Granted, this book wouldn't be appropriate for really young kids, but it's not soooooooooo bad that it needs to be taken away.

Kissing??????????? Are you (censored) kidding me? It's not like Middle Schooler's haven't heard of kissing.

I agree with weasleylover07

@Jasonfan44, I don't think it's as much about the kissing, as the idea of a central government pitting kids against eachother to fight to the death on live TV, and it being entertainment. It isn't just Middle Schoolers reading these books. I've seen kids as young as 8 reading the books. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want my third grader reading about kids killing kids. Sure, these books can be an eye-opener to realities in this world. And, I agree with the rest of you, these are really good books. But I can also see a parent's view on why they don't want their kids reading this.

Who knows, one day we could have kids reading it in English classes...it really is fascinating and makes a statement about humanity.

If it had not been on my school shelf, I would not have been able to read it. The public library has a long waiting list for it

I can understand why they wouldn't want their children reading The Hunger Games. It is dark, violent, bloody, disturbing, depressing, and other things. But it is also inspiring, freeing, and prompts people to take a deeper look at things, take a better look at the government and society. Yes, the surface is rough and dark - and I can see why it gave a couple of younger readers nightmares, but it's more than that. Other than that, if they don't want their children reading the books until they think they can handle it, just don't let them rent out or buy a copy. When they're older, they can read them if they want, but they don't have to. There's many intense, strange, and violent moments in the series - but I'd say the most overwhelming thing about it is that the slaughter involves kids the most.

So yeah, I can see why they'd worry if their children read it . . . but don't take it off shelves for those who want to read it and can handle it. It's not fair to the others.
