Mockingjay was in my opinion the best book in the series because for me it was the perfect conclusion. I realise the majority of the fanbase disliked it but I thought it was just perfect. I know, it IS depressing, but 你 know what? I liked that. Really, the premise of this series is 24 kids fighting to the death. THAT'S MEANT TO BE DEPRESSING.
First of all, I liked how Katniss's relationship with Gale evolved. They're slowly drifting apart, and the way it's written, it makes sense. Katniss has been in the games. Honestly, she's been through hell, and no matter how hard Gale tries, things won't be the same for them ever again because Gale has no idea what it's like in the arena. He has no idea what it was like for Katniss with the Capitol out to get her. I'm not happy about him just off and leaving and never getting mentioned again, I don't deny it, but there was no way he and Katniss could end up together. I just don't think it would work.
I also liked the way Suzanne Collins explored the morality of the rebellion. I'm sick of the typical "so-and-so are the good guys because the people they are fighting are evil" even though really they have quite a lot in common with the evil they are fighting (think Eragon). Coin does not want to defeat Snow because it's the right thing to do - she wants to replace him - think, for example of the new Hunger Games she wanted to put in place.
Katniss is starting to go crazy - and it's exactly how a real person would react to the situation she's been put in. She's cracking under the crazy pressure placed upon her but in the end she manages to put her life back together with the help of Peeta which I see as a sort of theme in this book - how no matter what there will in the end be some way 你 can deal with it as long as 你 have someone there to help you. She's only human and acts like one. One of the things I 爱情 about this series is the believable and realist character - when Peeta 或者 Katniss 或者 Prim 或者 Gale do 或者 feel 或者 say 或者 think something, 你 don't feel like screaming "THERE IS NO WAY A REAL PERSON WOULD REACT LIKE THAT". 你 understand their reaction and feel that in their place 你 could have acted the same way.
I'll admit Mockingjay is not without its flaws, but then again, no book is. The way Gale just disappeared felt like S. Collins just wanted to 包, 换行 the story up and didn't know what to do with him and I agree that some bits were darker then necessary but 总体, 整体 I thing this was the book that made for the series complete. I rate it five stars.
