But I guess this mixed with censorship. It was a joke aimed at the older viewers, but wouldn't have necessarily gone over the heads of younger audience members. I'm sure most kids would have known what the water squirter scene was supposed to look like!
I wouldn't have thought the scene would be infamous for stereotyping. It does stereotype, in the sense that Timmy says something along the lines of "it's a boy, because boys love water guns!" but it's not really the sort of stereotype that anyone of any gender would find offensive as such.
But yeah, I think it was mostly just meant to be a humorous scene. Slight censorship, but not enough to hide the obvious joke from kids!
