As for why people hate Molly Weasley:
1. For killing Bellatrix.
2. For being an infuriating mother hen.
3. Isn't being a weasel enough???
but pushing aside my undying hatred she was severus's closest friend and she did make him happy as a child
I do not love her because She' is the object of Snapes desire, and really, it should have been me :)
1.To get informations about her powers and Hogwarts( Wizarding World)
2.She already has a friend, she is not alone in Hogwarts
3.She thinks she is better than Snape (the other Gryffindors do not like Snape)
4.Snape was writing all the stuff in his Potions Book to help Lily with Potions.
= She just used him.
@CatrionaCosma: It's highly unlikely that Lily ever saw his Potions book. I don't think she used him at all.
I don't hate Lily. Why should I bother expending that energy on her when there's James Potter and Peter Pettigrew, as well as Voldemort and his Death Eating Nazi freaks to hate? I'm chuckling as I type this, but I'm Sirius. Er...serious. Really though, she made some bad judgement calls. So did Severus. Sometimes I think some folks have forgotten that they make mistakes too. ;)
I hate how everyone goes on about Severus ruining their friendship. You know what, he was humiliated at the moment and a girl defended him. I am not saying it was right, no he was in the wrong but seriously... what kind of friend throws away all the years of a friendship that lasted since childhood because of ONE mistake? I'd listen to my best friend no matter what he did! And also what was that about her friends not understanding why she was hunging around with him? His friends didnt understand why she was hunging around with her either but he never let that come between them.
I think him calling her a mudblood was just the last straw in a very long list of bad decisions he had made while at Hogwarts. After all, he was smack in the middle of a gang that wanted to see people like her wiped out...and he wasn't willing to drop out of it, even though he knew it hurt her. I can't blame either one of them for their decisions...Snape probably only joined the Death Eaters in the first place because they were the only ones willing to accept him, and it wouldn't be right for Lily to stay friends with someone who was a part of something that went against everything she believed in.
What I can't, and will *never* understand, is how she ended up with James Potter after seeing all the stuff he did to Snape (and apparently everyone else he took a dislike to). He was arrogant, he was a bully, and he was a coward as well, considering he only picked on people when he had someone there to back him up. I don't understand how Lily had the nerve to call Snape out for his actions while overlooking worse faults in James. I don't understand how she could end things with the person who had been her best friend since childhood and then turn right around and marry the man who had, quite possibly, been the catalyst that drove him into becoming a Death Eater in the first place. It makes it really hard for me to like her.
If Snape hadn’t said he was sorry for what he had done, if he hadn’t wanted her forgiveness, then maybe I would. But he did. He publicly camped outside the Gryffindor tower, desperately seeking to see Lily again. This alone could have severed his ties with many of his Death Eater friends but he did it anyway. This act shows that after having called Lily a mudblood, he was choosing her over his friends. If Lily had shown how kind she was and how she loved him enough to forgive him this could have been all the support he needed. He who is forgiven much loveth much. However, when she denied this to him she basically drove him into the dark. The incident where Snape called Lily that term was his worst memory. Having the one person he loved abandon him further drove Snape into becoming what he was. He probably believed he was damned anyway.
It seems that if a sin was committed against someone else, Lily was able to forgive it. However, when it was against herself she denied the quality of mercy. When Peter asked Christ if he should forgive a sinner 7 times, Jesus replied not 7 but 77 times. The moment that Snape asked for forgiveness and Lily denied it is the moment that Lily was at fault. For all the reader knows, Lily may have wanted to leave Snape behind for more popular friends. Snape provided her with an excuse.
But it isn’t only her actions towards Snape that I find Lily loathsome for. I wonder what happened to many of her relationships. She seems to have a pattern for leaving those who loved her behind. Her female friends seemed to disapprove of her relationship with Snape. However, when she fell in with James she seemed to adopt his friends and forget about her old ones. At least Snape didn’t force his friends on her and tell her not to have her own girlfriends! Lily’s friends should have tried to stop Lily’s assimilation into the Mauraders instead. Which brings me to why she also was so chummy with Sirius’ and Peter? Okay, even if I were to accept Lily forgiving James, I can’t accept her forgiving Sirius and Peter who were also so miserable to poor Snape. Yet she was as close to them as James was.
Which brings me, also, to Petunia. It is stated that Petunia and Lily hadn’t seen each other for years. I use to assume this was Petunia’s fault but after DH I no longer believe it. In DH Lily is laughing at how Harry destroyed a horrible vase Petunia sent her. Apparently, Petunia had still been reaching out to Lily. Maybe it was Lily who no longer saw Petunia has “desirable”. Petunia’s dislike could stem from hurt and the feeling that Lily thought she was better than a “muggle” like her. And maybe, just maybe, Petunia was right.
All in all, I find little to like about Lily as a character. She is possibly one of the most shallow characters ever created that fans insist on putting on a pedestal. Yes she was willing to die to save Harry but this is what many mothers would do. I have little doubt that Narcissa would give her life for Draco. Also Lily’s sacrifice only worked because Voldemort gave her the option to live. This was thanks to Snape. Severus’ is equally responsible for saving Harry’s life and giving him that protection.
While Lily had been hinted at being such a great character, what DH gave us was a girl who spent most of her time storming off at the end of a scene. It made me lose any respect I had for her and abandon interest in her just as she so cruelly abandoned Severus Snape.
However like most parents would be she was extremly brave in trying to protect Harry and for that she has my respect
