will be making a very swift return to screens in October and the show\'s newest couple Archie (KJ Apa) and Veronica (Cami Mendes) are going to be in for some "dark dealings".

The friends with benefits became a little more than that at the end of the last series, but it seems there\'s going to be trouble in paradise with the arrival of Veronica\'s dad Hiram Lodge (Mark Consuelos).

We don\'t think Archie\'s dad being shot will do much to help things, either.

Here\'s what executive producer and showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has to say about Archie and Veronica\'s season two fate...

"Hiram is a family man, he loves and treasures his wife and especially his daughter," he told

"But there\'s no denying that we\'ve built up someone who has very dark dealings and who has a criminal past.

"He\'s not like the Serpents, who are a street-level gang. He\'s operating at a much higher level and has tentacles everywhere.

"The questions will be: Is Hiram truly reformed? What does he want? How does Veronica figure into his plans? How will Archie figure into his plans?"

Mark Conseulos isn\'t the only new face joining the next season.

Charles Melton will be replacing Ross Butler as Archie\'s rival Reggie after the actor left the show due to scheduling conflicts with his work on the second season of

Skeet Ulrich (aka Jughead\'s dad) has also been promoted to a season regular.
