It's the equivalent of saying, "Oh, I'm not going to help those poor kids in Africa because my kid needs a new television set."

^that's not at all what they're saying. those kids in africa are also human, which is neutral to this claim and does not side with any specific human group over another. it's simply saying that you should put the NEEDS (not wants) of humans above that of insects, fish, birds, etc.

Yeah humans should come first. Heck there are lots of other human beings who are suffering and aren't being helped. If we as human beings can't help our own species then how can we even help other species or the environment?

I'm kinda of in the middle. I think it's important to care about all lives equally. But at the same time I can see where they are going with this. Humans basically are the dictators of the other species. Cause when there's an overflow or an in danger species. We humans try to help, Not all of us but some do. But at the same time we kinda of put others at danger or put ourselves in danger. So our hands are at the sake of the others. We are very needed. But at the same time it depends on the importance or the value of an animal/human to you. So in other words it really depends. People might prefer that dog/cat over that random stranger or their love life a human over that random animal. Not that it's a bad thing it can be good. But, We usually take in the value of the relationship with that human or any other species on who we care most for. It's just the way it works. I'm sure I'll pick my pet over a random stranger. And I know it's probably the same for you too. Again it's just the way it works. More personally relation we have with something more likely that we will prefer it.

Humans are superior to some animals. Some animals are superior to humans.
