Ok, finally I am getting this review out and I'm telling 你 this is a long one. Normally I separate my reviews into sections but for this one I just need to express it.
Ok, so 你 know I 爱情 the 图书 already, and 你 may know how I feel about 图书 being made into movies. Now most people care about, "oh I hope they don't change anything", 或者 "gee I hope the character descriptions in the book fit the ones in the movie". But honestly I couldn't give a sh#t less. I'm fine if the changes they make just fit for a movie better. Of course it isn't going to be exact, and really who cares what they look like, so annabeth has brown hair instead of blond, that doesn't really bother me.
What did bother me was that instead of just changing some plot points, they changed the whole plot and the characters with it. Not the look of the characters but the personalities as well. Hades is not like that, he's not the bad guy. Grover was funny at times I have to admit but he wasn't in the book and the comical naughty side of him although comical did not fit the story. Annabeth was as dry as cereal. Ok that was a terrible comparison but she had no character development. In fact, none of the characters were really developed, even percy didn't change much and that's a problem. I could b#tch and complainabout the changes made like everyone else, but if they had changed it into something better like "how to train your dragon" then there is no problem. So yes they screwed it up in this movie but that doesn't mean a 电影院 bad because they changed it from the book. So I'm not going to tell 你 how many things they changed, but I will say it was enough that I don't even call this the lightening thief anymore.
Now I'm not saying that I wouldn't like them to follow the book, it would be great if they did that, but just because they do, doesn't mean I automatically hate it like in this case. Well I shouldn't say hate, I did laugh once 或者 twice and the first half was somewhat enjoyable if 你 forgot about the book. But nothing could save the 秒 half. They changed every plot point to a worse one which made it forgettable. I didn't care about any of these characters., and 你 can say all the bad things about it, what they left out in stuff but that wasn't the "main" problem for me, it was a big problem but not what determines a bad 或者 good movie. In this case they did go to far, but my main problem still was character development. If 你 think about it all 最近的 电影院 have been lacking that. With all the modern effects the movie creator put in all these action sequences forgetting that if we don't know that character then we won't give a sh#t.
I mean just look at the past movies, clash of the titans, harry potter 6, the last airbender, and don't get me started on the last airbender because that's for another review, but in all those 电影院 I didn't care if anyone died. Not all 最近的 电影院 have this problem, but I'm seeing 更多 and more, like 变形金刚 two, all focussed on the effects and not the story. Same thing with alice and wonderland, and god that movie was stupid but again, for another review. 你 don't know how badly I want to point out all the plot holes, but I'd be 写作 for days and 你 probably already know them anyways. 由 plot holes I don't mean changes, I mean the stuff that doesn't make a f#ck of sense. Like why would annabeth just randomly walk 由 and know there leaving, ok 你 could guess how, but why would she want to go. They were very vague about her not being able to leave like in the book. BUT HELLO, if your willing to break the rules and leave camp anyways then why didn't 你 do it before. I don't know if I'm over looking this but it seemed like they were all buddy buddy real fast. 你 need to EXPLAIN and once again have CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. She clearly stated she had strong feelings for him after only spending one "FIGHT" scene with him. So 你 beat her in a fight and she wants to be with you? The new plot they came up with made no sense. That's just one example. There are so many things that don't make sense and quite a few cliche's
This is not the worst fail I've ever seen, I've seen way worse movies, tons. But this is still a bad one. Unlike other bad 电影院 though, this one had potential. The actors were decent, I mean they could act at least for the most part. They weren't 100% believable but they were somewhat persuading. Although I did hate what they did to Hades as he was my favourite god, where's the helm of darkness, I'm sorry I'm getting into stuff they left out which I 说 I wouldn't but I wanted to see the helm of darkness, and cerberus too. That would've looked awesome. And Ares and a lot of other things but I 说 I wouldn't get into that so I'll change courses.
If 你 read the 图书 或者 even if 你 haven't I'd say it's worth a look of 你 find it on T.V. Not something to rent unless your really curious like me but something to kind of laugh at. Just don't think of the book 或者 it'll ruin the experience. It could've been awesome but really I may prefer it this way. 图书 are the way to go. If this movie was awesome then I'd be obsessing over the 电影院 and not the 图书 as much. But now I an imagine what I want. After I saw the movie I still had my imagination in the book, because like I 说 this wasn't the lightening thief, it was a different story.
Well there's my review and I wrote it not to tell 你 what every review tells 你 " they ruined it, it's nothing like the book blah blah blah," because that's never my main issue. But I wanted to tell 你 my thoughts a on the key focus which is developing the characters so that 你 care. This wasn't to tell 你 how bad the movie was, but anyways it was really bad. But still worth the see just to see what they did with it and so 你 can critique it and complain to directors to make the changes that are necessary. There probably never going to follow the book exactly with anything, and although that would be awesome I just want some freaking character development. Sorry for keep stressing this but I've been thinking this ever since 变形金刚 2, and I'm starting to get real annoyed. Just one 更多 thing to say and that would be the cabins, I know I 说 I wouldn't go into this, but it's like taking the houses out of harry potter. It was as if harry already knew he was a wizard then got to a wizard training field with no dumbledore and the nevil winds up being evil and becomes the main antagonist like luke. Forget malfoy and his father and dumbledore, they're not a part of it. Forget hagrid, they would only see him once. Add in some 更多 stuff like that and that's pretty much what the transition from book to movie felt like. Get rid of all the possibilities of developing characters and just have action not caring if anything makes sense.
