His phone didn't ring, not for a call, not for a text, not for anything. He just sat on the side of the 床, 床上 wondering if there was really anything he could do to make her see what he saw. One thing on his mind was, if not for Skipper, she'd still be 由 the scientist's side.
Flashback
Kowalski was practicing some rock climbing while Rico and Private were on belay and Skipper and Monique were watching. Skipper noticed how excited and nervous Monique looked while witnessing the brains climbing like a spider.
"When's the last time you've climbed a wall?" Skipper asked.
"Oh, a few years back. I stopped climbing though," Monique nervously responded.
"Fear of falling?" Skipper mentioned.
Monique looked the other way, trying not to talk about it.
"Listen, Monique, when will 你 consider taking risks?" Skipper asked again.
"I don't like to get hurt 或者 risk my life. It's too much for me to handle. Other than that, I've written strong poetry," Monique pointed out.
"Exactly. There are times when 你 tend to be spineless and a safety holic. The only time where 你 seem to be a good fighter is when you're emotionally challenged and 你 try to keep yourself from being that way. How one of my men manage to still be with someone like 你 remains a mystery to me," Skipper lectured.
Monique looked back at Skipper, then at her mate hundreds of feet above her. Tears were slowly forming in her eyes, but she tried to hide it 由 keeping her glasses on for a while.
"Tell Kowalski I'll be at the apartment if he needs me," she told Skipper, before slowly walking out of the room.
As she lied down with her back on the bed, she put her glasses on the nightstand and cried while in serious thought.
Maybe Skipper's right, she thought, at this rate of me being scared and safe, the amount of time i have left with Kowalski is decreasing faster than I thought.
At that rate, Monique tossed an old notebook of hers out the window and into the 街, 街道 to cause an accident. Partially satisfied with what she caused, she jumped out the window as well, but toppled on Kowalski 由 accident.
"Guess we're both airborne, huh?" Kowalski joked as they both got up with each others help.
Monique was about to walk into the street, still with tears in her eyes. Unfortunately for her, Kowalski pulled her back due to the accident.
"Monique, you'd get yourself killed out there!" Kowalski pointed out.
"So, I'll be risking my life, yes?" Monique asked.
"Of course 你 would," Kowalski responded.
"A far distance from safety, a risk of danger, a chance I'll face something that would keep people from falling asleep at night. That's what I'm hoping for," Monique explained as she was nearly walking into the 街, 街道 again, only to be pulled back 由 Kowalski again.
"Why are 你 willing to risk your life?"
"The biggest memory of bravery that involves my skill, control, and continuation in my life is performing in front of a lot of people. I'm not as much of a danger seeker as 你 或者 the others, but I'm going to change that for you, Kowalski."
"Does this have anything to do with 你 and Skipper talking earlier?"
Monique was struggling to hold back tears in her eyes while pulling away from Kowalski. She continued facing the accidents in the 街, 街道 and tried to keep Kowalski from seeing her cry.
"Yes, and he's right. It really is a mystery why someone like 你 remains with someone like me if I even struggle over the slightest sensation of pain. But note that I will change when and if I return," Monique concluded before walking into the 街, 街道 and into the accident.
Now Kowalski was the one who was worried about certain safety and was relieved, but still worried, after noticing Monique made it on the other side of the 街, 街道 alive.
Present Time
The memory continuously haunts him, it was even noticable to the rest of the team. At times when Skipper 说 that he needed to 移动 on due to a possibility that she wasn't even right for him 或者 she might never return at all, the brainiac just runs away to keep himself from being slightly emotional in front of his leader. While part of him wanted to cry at the moment that's mentioned, part of him wanted to 拍击, smack, 味道 his leader across the face because he was partially the cause of her departure.
It had been approximately 2 and a half years since she left and Kowalski's remaining determined to continue waiting for her to return. During the time, worry still pours in the bucket of his mind. What if she changes completely from the sweet and strong girl he fell in 爱情 with once she returns? What if she doesn't return at all?
That night, Kowalski and the others were watching the news and it mentioned that, earlier that day, a female psychopath was climbing on the outside of a plane while it was still in the air. What caught the scientist's attention was that he recognized that female psychopath to be Monique. It was shown that she was climbing to the 最佳, 返回页首 of the plane and managed to stand on it as well. As she was standing, she looked down to the ground below as if she was waiting for something. Then, at what she felt was the right moment, she jumped off the plane and landed, at this point, who knows where.
"You don't think it's too late?" Private asked, hopefully to himself, but Kowalski heard.
Kowalski quickly set his notebook to the side and walked toward Skipper.
"Permission to head out, sir?" Kowalski asked with fear controlling his tone.
"Go ahead, soldier," Skipper said, before Kowalski grabbed his 涂层, 外套 and left as quickly as he could.
Kowalski was running all around New York, then he headed to the docks, to hopefully find her. He didn't see her, though, and was starting to lose hope, thinking he had run out of time, but he noticed a noise coming from under the dock. As he was looking down, he saw someone was grabbing a pole supporting the dock to try to keep themself afloat. As the person was trying to retrieve some oxygen, Kowalski recognized that it was Monique. She was trying to keep her grip, but she felt a bit tired, so it was pretty difficult for her to focus.
"Monique? Are 你 alright?" Kowalski called.
Monique turned around and recognized the sound of Kowalski's voice soothing her eardrums, but she didn't want to sound like she was weak.
"Oh, I'm fine, Kowalski. What are 你 doing here?"
"I heard about that drop from the plane and I was looking for you."
"You were looking for me?"
"Of course I was."
"I thought you'd forget about me due to how I was."
"I wouldn't forget about you. Grab my hand and I'll help 你 out of there," Kowalski 说 after extending his hand.
"N-no, I can handle the cold water," Monique tried to say.
"Monique, you'll freeze to death. Please, just grab my hand," Kowalski pleaded, before she grabbed his hand and was pulled onto the deck, completely soaked.
"What were 你 doing?"
"I was trying to make it back here in the most dangerous way I could."
"You could've been killed. Think about it, do 你 really want to take that chance?"
Monique nearly looked away, and since her face was wet, it was hard to tell if she was crying 或者 not.
"No, I don't want to take that chance. I guess it really isn't me," Monique exclaimed, ashamed, as she was looking down.
"Monique, I know it's not part of your background, but there's no reason for 你 to be ashamed of that. If 你 think it's going to please me if 你 risked your life, well, i'm not alright with that. It killed me from the inside out thinking that I might never see 你 again. I want it to be like it was," Kowalski told her.
He took off his 夹克 and wrapped it around her to keep her from shivering. Then, he put his arm around her and turned her to face him.
"Please don't force yourself to change again," Kowalski requested.
Monique had one tear crawl out of her eye and just hugged him with all the emotional strength she had. Seems they were both waiting for that moment they saw each other again, and it was worth the wait.
