When Grace came to, she looked at her surroundings. She was lying on a couch, and she saw her knight in shining armor, John. He said, "It's good that you're awake, Grace. Are 你 okay?" She said, "I think so." He asked, "What are 你 doing in Portland? Why aren't 你 in Salem?" She said, "I went for a bike ride to clear my head, and I was so 迷失 in thought, and I didn't realize where I was going until I saw a sign that indicated I was in Portland. It was so dark, and I got scared 由 a shadowy figure. I peddled as fast as I could, and I made it here. I'm glad to know I found you." John said, "I'm glad for that, too. I'm sure your aunt and uncle are worried about you. I'll give them a call to let them know where 你 are." He called them, and after the call ended, he said, "Grace, they told me that they're glad you're safe. They 说 for me to bring 你 首页 in the morning." Grace said, "Thanks, John." He said, "You're welcome." After a pause, he asked, "Have 你 had your dinner?" She said, "No, I haven't." He said, "No wonder 你 passed out. 你 had that long trip, and the last time 你 ate was at lunch time. I'll fix 你 something to eat." Grace said, "John, 你 don't have to go through all that trouble." He said, "It's no trouble at all, Grace. I'm not letting 你 go hungry." After she ate, Grace asked, "John, can I talk to you?" He said, "Sure. What's on your mind?" She said, "Earlier this week, I found out that I have the option to double up and graduate early." John gave a strange look. "You can do that?" Grace said, "Yeah. I have been considering it, but my aunt and uncle fear that it would make things harder on myself to combine my eleventh and twelfth grade years together. However, my friend, Sabrina, is doubling up." John said, "Hold it right there! If Sabrina jumped off a cliff, would 你 do it, too?" Grace said, "I would if I had a parachute." He said, "Grace, I 说 nothing about a parachute. The point I'm trying to make is that 你 shouldn't base your decisions on what your 老友记 think 或者 what's cool." She said, "Yeah, but John, Sabrina told me she wouldn't be my friend anymore if I didn't double up." He said, "I hate to break it to you, but she's not your friend." Grace said, "She's not?" John said, "No. If Sabrina was really your friend, she would consider what 你 need and how 你 feel, not just what she wants." Grace said, "I guess you're right, John." He asked, "Do 你 really want to double up, Grace?" She said, "I don't know." He said, "That wasn't an option when I was in school. This is what I feel I should tell you. Enjoy the last two years of high school. If 你 double up, you'll be doing all this work, and for what? To graduate early? If 你 take one 年 at a time, 你 can enjoy your 老友记 who aren't doubling up." She said, "I never thought of it that way. I don't think I'll double up." He said, "There 你 go." She began to cry and said, "I have to break the news to Sabrina." John said, "Grace, I just told 你 Sabrina is NOT your friend." Grace said, "It hurts so much, John." She fell into his arms sobbing. He said, "I know it hurts. I've had fake 老友记 in the past. Nothing hurts 更多 than insincerity. In fact, I think Buddha once 说 that an evil friend will wound your mind. It's not just your mind. It's your heart, too." After a pause, he said, "I think 你 should rest, Grace." She said, "Okay. I'll sleep on the couch." He said, "No, 你 won't. I'll sleep on the couch. 你 can sleep in my bed." She said, "All right. Good night, John." He said, "Good night to you, too, Grace."
