Someone needs a serious shave (and maybe a long bath).
this fall, Jamie (Sam Heughan) is consumed with loss after his side is defeated at the Battle of Culloden and his beloved Claire (Caitriona Balfe) returns through the stones to the 20th century. EW has obtained another exclusive first look from the start of the season when a bereft Jamie reunites and goes on an adventure with his surrogate son Fergus (played first by Romann Berrux and later by César Domboy).
“He’s not himself for maybe six episodes,” explains Heughan. “He didn’t expect to live. He went into the battle to die. He goes on a big journey from realizing that he’s still alive to finding a balance in staying alive to finding out who he is without Claire.”
Fortunately, he won’t have to stay alone for long. In one of the most anticipated scenes of the new season — which is based on Diana Gabaldon’s
series — Jamie and Claire passionately reunite in an Edinburgh print shop after 20 years of separation. Penned by exec producer Matthew B. Roberts, the scene is so important to fans that production designer Jon Gary Steele inserted an Easter egg as a little reward. “We want them to go, ‘Oh my God.’ We want them to love it,” he says. “We even hid something in there that hopefully will be seen on camera as a surprise.”
