When Metal Gloss arrived at the yards, she was with Hawkeye in the freight train from Denver.

Orion: *Waiting for Metal Gloss to get off train*
Hawkeye: *Stops train, and jumps out* This engine is low on fuel, get it to the fueling depot.
Orion: Why me?
Hawkeye: Because you're the closest pony.
Orion: Why don't 你 do it? I have a message from Metal Gloss.
Hawkeye: What?
Orion: I 说 I have a-
Hawkeye: What's the message?!
Orion: Metal Gloss has to take engine 836 to the repair yards in Reno.
Hawkeye: Why not here?
Orion: They're occupied.
Hawkeye: Metal Gloss, Pete wants 你 to take Engine 836 to Reno for repairs.
Metal Gloss: I'm on it.

Metal Gloss got to engine 836. The engine was a 4-8-4 steam locomotive, and it was just refueled for the trip into Reno.

As she was heading Reno, Metal Gloss had to stop at a red signal in Ogden. Nearby, she saw Nikki sitting at the station.

Metal Gloss: What is Nikki doing here? Nikki!
Nikki: *Hears Metal Gloss, and walks over* Howdy.
Metal Gloss: What are 你 doing?
Nikki: My boss says that there's not supposed to be any trains for me to drive until tomorrow. He allowed me to stay here, and relax at the platform.
Metal Gloss: Are 你 老友记 with everypony that works here?
Nikki: Of course, but I miss Meadow, my sister.
Metal Gloss: I'm sorry.
Nikki: That's alright. We had good times in the first three months we've been working here. There weren't many trains, but we didn't mind. Most of the trains we got to drive were passenger trains.
Metal Gloss: Did 你 have any 老友记 that were passengers?
Nikki: Oh yeah, many of them. One of them was an old mare named Mrs. Last. She passed away yesterday, but before that, she would ride on many of the passenger trains I drove. She thought I was a really good engineer, but everypony says that. Then, there was a 20 年 old stallion that wasn't here that often, but he would ride to San Franciscolt whenever he got vacations from college. Then, there's a little filly named Billy Sue. She was very sweet, and often had lollipops.
Metal Gloss: Did she ever give one of her lollipops to you?
Nikki: Everytime she showed up, yeah.
Metal Gloss: *Sees signal change from red to green* Well, I better get going. I need to take this engine into Reno for repairs.
Nikki: Well, so long Metal Gloss. Thanks for talking to me. 你 really made my day.
Metal Gloss: Anytime. *drives engine forward*
Nikki: *Smiles, and sighs* She's a nice pony. I don't get to see her often, but I like her.
