Gambon always seemed too harsh for Dumbledore, IMO. Harris was much more like I'd imagined in the books.

Gambon is a terrific actor, but not for Dumbledore. Richard Harris was the PERFECT Dumbledore as described in the books, I have no faults whatsoever with his portrayal. Gambon was great in Prisoner of Azkaban, okay in HalfBlood Prince, meh in Order of the Phoenix and AWFUL in Goblet of Fire. Richard Harris was amazing in the first 2; he actually felt like Dumbledore. Gambon feels like a fan dressing up as Dumbledore at a Halloween event.
