Lucas, dude. He's made it possible for unknowns to become directors and he doesn't take any B.S. from the Hollywood suits, and that's how he had gotten started.

Spielberg. He defined the summer blockbuster with Jaws, reinstigated the use of black and white film with Schindlers List, and has proven that a director can be versatile enough to straddle several genres and still make good movies.

Not my favorite either, but look at what he's accomplished, how can you not be inspired. I also like Woody Allen and think he's pretty influential.
