Why would a guy flirt with a girl all weekend and then the week later tell them that they have a girlfriend?

I haven't seen this guy in three years. Well, I saw him for the first time in three years a couple weeks ago. It's a long story on why I finally saw him again, but I did. Our families spent a weekend together and he was flirting with me the whole time...and I admit I flirted back. (He even attempted to play Bella's Lullaby from Twilight for me! How sweet...he couldn't but he was really sorry he didn't get it for me.] So I started liking him.
Then a week later my friend called him for no reason. Then she hung up and he texted me saying 'who was that?' So I 说 'oh sorry that was my friend' And he replied 'lol, tell her I 说 she's hot' So I told her and her reply was 'uh thanks, but im taken' And then he texted me back saying 'tell her I've never seen her and I have a gf'
Now I am heartbroken because he knew he was flirting with me the week before and he also knew I would now know he had a girlfriend! So now I'm wondering if he already had a girlfriend before that weekend 或者 if he got one after. I don't know wat to think! Please help me. </3

Well, like I said, I haven't seen him in about 3 years. I don't think he would tell me his life story. And you're right, but I doubt he will. Thanks anyway! ~♥~
