WHAT?? i thought is was abomindable!!! a horrible horrible injustice on jane austen! If youve ever read any of her books you know that she would never even consider running away with a guy like that. And the whole personality and disposition was just completely off to me.
I looked at the movie like it was just some random girl during that time period. Cuz it was.
I thought it showed an great side of Jane, the young Jane. The Jane we often think of is the 30 year old Jane. But this I felt was an accurate portrayal of the young Jane who wanted love and turned into the older Jane who wrote of love.
Maybe it's like the saying those who can't act, teach. Those who can't find love, write of it.
I enjoyed the film but I always imagine the young Jane as witty and flirty with a real sense of fun and mischief.I would also like to have seen more of the relationship between Jane and Cassandra.
While the acting was quite good, apart from what we've read about Jane Austen, what do we really know about her? We know when she lived, and historically, a bit on how she lived, but apart from that is conjecture and hearsay. . .people in general have far more facets than just one. No one is merely clever or melancholy, for instance. A person is more than that and I think that while it's entertaining to speculate or theorize on who Jane Austen really was, we won't actually KNOW because it's simply not possible.
I can't really say because I saw the movie a long time before I read any of her books. I should probably re-watch it now I know a hell of a lot more about her.
I think that Anne Hathaway performed a very decent portrayal of an very mercurial, complex and complicated woman. I also LOVED James McAvoy as the Irish rouge Tom Lefroy :)
