My Bleeding Heart

She was supposed to be mine . . . but I 迷失 her.

Now every couple months I see her around the bureau. We say hi and I breathe in her perfume as she gives me a hug hello. I always make sure not to hold on too long 或者 too tight. Then I 显示 her pictures of Jack, and she shows me pictures of her little girl . . . Lucy.

And I smile as I look at the shiny brown hair and the big brown eyes, and I say that she’s beautiful. And then I think to myself, ‘just like her mother.’

Our Story

The first time it happened was in the middle of a case. We had been searching for three days for a missing four 年 old girl. Her name was Emma. In her pictures she had dimples and blonde curls and bright green eyes.

Chapter 3

“Go home, Hotch,” Emily 说 tiredly, trying to close the door on him. She simply couldn’t deal with this right now. The initial thrill of knowing he’d come to her had faded quickly, the adrenaline ebbing and flowing like the tide. Now, all she felt was an overwhelming sense of impending doom. And quite frankly, it was 更多 than she could handle in her present state of mind.

Quickly inserting his foot in the partially open door, Hotch stilled its onward momentum. “No, Emily. Not until we discuss what happened this morning.”...

Two hours later, Emily laughed breathlessly as she feinted right, thrusting her weapon and hearing the satisfying clang of steel meeting steel as their sabers clashed. Small rivulets of perspiration ran down her neck, the bib of her mask capturing the moisture with ease as she swayed to the side.

Hotch was good. No, she thought with a mental headshake, better than good. Hotch was excellent. Graceful and lethal, his body flowed as he backed her toward the wall, advancing across the room with well calculated swipes of his weapon.

Latching on to the inadvertent opening she’d 给 him, like a hand clinging to a lifeline, Hotch nodded. “You’re absolutely right, Emily. I don’t lie.” He paused, then added, deeply, “ I most especially don’t lie to you.”

“That’s what I just said, Hotch,” Emily snapped, wondering if the man in front of her was looking to extend their time together 由 repeating everything she had to say. If so, she could easily make that line of attack very ineffectual.
