Yep, ALOT. The whole moral of Harry Potter is that it is our choices that define who we are. Harry chose to be in Gryffindor rather than be in Slytherin and get involved in the Dark Arts. This is what made him different from Tom Riddle/Voldemort. The whole story would be completely different.

It'd have been harder for him to befriend Ron and Hermione, and so he might not have had their help especially in the earlier books. He'd have been likely to befriend at least some of the Slytherin students, leading to later conflict due to so many of them having Death Eater parents or relatives. He'd also be likely to have been more exposed to pureblood supremacy ideas.
