Severus turned on Voldemort because he killed lilly, voldemort can read minds and would be able to tell if snape wasn't really on his side and was spying for dumbledore and would oviously kill him if he found he wasn't on his side, so severus put his life at risk for many years for lilly, even though she had a husband and was already dead. when edward does something like that, i might change my choice.

Puh-lease, Edward was aroused by Bella's "mysteriousness": He couldn't read her mind and she smelt positively delicious. Bella went out with him because he was gorgeous and she was desperate enough to do so. If Edward was ugly and he could read Bella's mind like everybody else's, I doubt they'd give each other a second glance. They're entire "love" is based on lust.

I have to agree with nati30. Snape loves Lily so much that he was willing to protect Harry just because he was Lily's son and lets not forget the whole Patronus deal :)

I'll admit that I still hate Snape, even if he is a good guy. But what he felt for Lily was the real deal, man. I mean I just bawled at some points for him. In Twilight, Bella never noted anything about Eddy that wasn't physical beauty.

it's amazing how he risks his life for lily, even after she's dead! when she dies, he doesn't go to italy to off himself, he protects what lily left behind! one of the few things in this world that make me cry!

Of course, it's ever so sad. Poor Snape, but then, if Lily didn't marry James, there would be no Harry. But it always wrenches my heart.

In Deathly Hallows when Voldemort orders Nagini to bite Snape, then he leaves, Harry runs for him, and Snape asks Harry to look at him

"Look...at...me"

So Snape can look into Lily's eyes one more time before he dies, it's bittersweet.

You all said it. To compare what Severus felt for Lily to what Edward actually feels for Bella (NOTHING OTHER THAN BLOODLUST), it's simply outrageous. Disgusting.

God I hate Twilight and the majority of its fans. Stupid stupid stupid.

Severus loves Lily so much he sacrifices his own life to protect her son, even though she had the child with a man he hated. He risked his own life for years by spying on the most powerful dark wizard of all time, who would've killed him without batting an eyelid, because he loved her so much. If that's not true love, shoot me now.

Every time I think about Snape and Lily, I feel like crying. Snape put his life in danger for years for Lily. He saved Harry, even though he was his worst enemy's son, because he was Lily's son.
It's true love!

Snape was willing to risk his life for Harry, Lily's son,, even though Harry's father was the one who took most of the happiness away from his childhood

Now THAT is love

Edward is abusive and a terrible boyfriend. He won't let Bella live her life. But Bella WAS an idiot for liking him in the first place!

He changed everything about him self, risked everything, put himself through mental torture on, practically, a daily basis, and socially ostracized himself to make sure she didn't die in vain.

Yeah, I think that's a wee bit stronger than "I love you so much that I'm not going to kill you."

I don't feel like officially choosing but it's a definite yes. Allow me to explain: (for the purposes of not overusing my quotation marks to say things like Edward's "love" for Bella, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that Edward and Bella genuinely love each other)

If Bella left Edward and had a baby with Jacob, Edward would never do anything for that child. He would probably move his family far away so he would never have to see Bella again. And if somehow he ended up in Snape's position, I can't imagine him doing so much to protect the child of Jacob's.

Severus risked death for Lily and consequently Harry hundreds, maybe thousands, of times over seventeen years by earning and keeping Voldemort's trust, even while working against the Death Eaters. Years after she was dead, he was still desperately in love with her ("After all this time?" "Always" and "Look...at...me...") He hated James for bullying him and then winning over the girl he loved, but he protected James' son all of his life because he was Lily's son too.

Most men might not intentionally harm the child of their loved one and another man, but most wouldn't go so far as to protect said child. Severus would do anything for Lily, even if she wasn't around to see his actions. And the montage of Snape's memories in DH Part 2, where Alan Rickman showcases his incredible acting abilities of heartbreaking love has more deep and beautiful love than all of Robert Pattinson's attempts of love in the Twilight movies.

Severus died to save the so lily had with his enemy. Bella would die trying to kill the child if she were put in the same circumstances. Besides, I 'love' my worst enemy more than bella 'loves' Edward. They have a lust relationship.

Maybe not. Snape's devotion and love for Lily was wrapped up with guilt. They were never a couple and Lily never reciprocated his feelings for her (feelings that we only guessed he had since he never actually admitted to having romantic feelings for Lily) so was he devoted to Lily's memory because she had been his only true friend and he felt guilty for causing her death or because he was in love with her? I mean Snape's devotion to Lily's memory and Sirius' to James seem to be about the same. I could see Sirius doing everything Snape did because James had been his friend, yet I don't think Sirius was in love with James.

Also if he truly loved Lily then surely, to Snape, Lily's wish to protect Harry would have superseded Dumbledore's plant for Harry to sacrifice himself to defeat Voldemort. If he'd been protecting Harry for Lily and done everything because he wanted to honor Lily's sacrifice, then why did he go along with Dumbledore's plan to as he put it "to keep him alive so that he can die at the right time"?

I'm pretty sure that your Patronus matching another person's is a sure sign that you're in love with them, and definitely not in the same way that Sirius was friends with James. And it was made incredibly obvious that Snape was in love with Lily. If you couldn't see that, go reread "The Prince's Tale." In my opinion, it's a much better love story than all four books of Twilight.

Because Snape knew that there are some things more important than that. He recognized that sometimes one has to die for the good of many, even if that someone is the last thing you have of the one you love.

At least Snape's love for Lily went beyond looks, unlike Bella and Edward's.

No, Snape's patronus did not match Lily's. James's Patronus matched Lily's. The stag is the does' match. Snape's patronus mimicked Lily's. I'm sure JK wrote it so for a good reason. That to me denotes more a sense fixation than love. It was I believe JK's way of showing the difference between James and Snape's feelings towards Lily.

Snape is my all time favourite character so rest assured that I've read "The Princes Tale" enough times to pick the little clues left by Rowling. My interpretation is obviously different from yours, but I can see how you've reached your opinion. I simply disagree with you for the reasons I've stated above.

Snape didn't keep Harry alive because he was the last thing of Lily alive. He did it so that Lily's sacrifice was not in vain. So to then turn around and help Dumbledore means he basically chose the cause over Lily. As to recognising that sometimes one has to die for the good of many, we start entering into murky waters. If it is your own choice made freely as in the case of Dumbledore and Snape then fine, but that wasn't what Dumbledore had proposed. Dumbledore essentially took away Harry's chance to make his own choices.

In the middle. Snape truly loved Lily and sacrificed himself to save her child (which obviously holds a part of her) yet Edward has done the same for Bella several times. Lily and Bella are on the same page, too (in a way). Lily saw Snape as a friend and didn't love him back. In my opinion, Bella saw Edward on for his looks and was just in love with the idea of love. In both cases, I can see a lot of obsession.

Yes, Lily and James were soul mates (the Patronus is a projection of one's soul) and Snape's became a doe because of his love for Lily. I think that Snape did love Lily, truly and deeply, but maybe it was in a different way than James did.

And personally, I feel that Harry would have chosen to die even if Dumbledore had offered him a choice (I don't know what the other option would have been, besides "die or everyone else will"). Through his emotions and thoughts on his walk to the forest, I think he knew that he was doing the right thing.

And yes, I can see where you got your opinion too and I see where you're coming from. You make a good point! I just disagree. So let's agree to disagree. :D
