Chapter 11: Good Cop, Ed Cop
"Woo-hoo! We're escaped convicts! "
Ling tossed his shackled arms into the air as he continued to sprint along with Barry and Hayden. Hayden rolled her eyes as she pulled her cuffs forward, knocking Ling onto his face, still grinning. The mass murderer chuckled lightly at the misfortune of the prince of Xing. He pulled himself back up from the concrete ground and pouted.
"Be quiet, Ling. The last thing we need to do is be caught."
It didn't help of course that Barry's suit was incredibly loud and created a clamor with every step he took. It wasn't exactly easy to tip toe in armor.
"Woo-hoo...! We're escaped convicts...!" Ling whispered under his breath, waving a shoulder high fist in the air. Hayden had been leading the team for almost 15 minutes, darting through back alley ways and tip toeing past windows.
"Gee, blondie; 你 act like you've done this before."
Barry whispered from the very back of the chained team. Hayden could only snicker emptily at the comment.
"Heh, I'm just trying not to get us caught."
由 now, Ling's wrists were worn sore and raw from the chained shackles, he attempted to slip out of them; but to no avail.
"Ling, wheres your sword?"
"Uhhh, the blonde lady took it. It was a weapon." Ling answered childishly and pointed a thumb back over his shoulder.
"Ughh. But, Barry's cleaver should still be in that alleyway. But..."
Hayden hung her head as Ling continued to giggle for no reason. "We gotta find it..."
"I want every every hotel in the city checked. Find those three ruffians and the Elric brothers. I want them brought back to Headquarters."
野马 stormed through the marble halls of HQ with is 1st Lieutenant 由 his side.
"I can't believe 你 left them with Havoc..." Roy was disgusted with how vulnerable Riza had let herself be. So pliable and weak. So unlike her.
"I can understand how 你 would be disappointed in me, Sir."
Hawkeye droned aloud as he tried desperately to keep in step with her Colonel. 野马 couldn't stay upset with his lieutenant; and they both knew it all too well.
"Yo! Roy!"
野马 tried to stifle a groan as Hughes approached the two. "I got a phone call a few 分钟 以前 from Northern Command. Turns out she's looking for that same girl. Allegedly; she took out quite a few mountain guards."
野马 furrowed his brow, his mind still fuzzy from everything. Was he really dealing with a girl? A young girl? She was practically a child still.
"Get ahold of her again. I need 更多 intel on her situation. We may be staying here a little longer, Hawkeye."
"Damn it! Why can't they just follow the plan?!" Envy openly cursed as he bent up his carved body in frustration. Yet again; another homunculus plan gone awry. Everything was going smoothly until Barry showed up and they were arrested. 野马 was supposed to take off to the North to investigate, leaving Central with only Roy's subordinates. The homunculi figured they could easily clear them out to somewhere else, so Bradley would e able to follow through with the promised day. But the humans had other plans.
"Envy, I've told 你 plenty of times."
Lust leaned her voluptuous body against a concrete wall. "They will follow through. They are dumb enough to, so they will fall victim to a man they trusted for years. How weak."
Envy continued to thrash about. He tended to get this way when things didn't go the way he wanted them to.
"Gluttony is in the North with Sloth..."
Lust glanced gracefully over her gallant shoulder and shot Envy a devious look. "Let's have him do some destruction. 野马 will have to follow through this time. General Armstrong will be sure to make him."
Al and Ed were sprinting through the streets of Central; on the heels of a tiny dog, tracking his owner's scent.
"They can't do any simple thing we ask them to. Always getting in trouble." Edward spat as he continued to jog, his brother clanking audibly behind him. Boston had taken them to a darker and danker part of town, down through alleyways and past various hotels. They eventually came to another alleyway where Boston had stopped and barked.
There stood Ling, Hayden and Barry, cutting their chains off themselves.
"WHAT THE HELL?!" Edward yelled as e resisted the urge to 冲床 two of them in the back of the head. Ling giggled as Hayden swung the blade and cut him loose.
"This guy over here," Hayden rolled her eyes back toward Barry. "He tried to kill us. I think we're okay now."
Edward's face read pure confusion as he babbled nonsense. What idiots.
The braided boy shook his blonde head as he turned to walk away, his 涂层, 外套 flowing behind him in the autumn breeze.
"Where are 你 going?" Hayden inquired, tossing the chains into a nearby dumpster, along with the knife. Edward just walked on; unphased 由 his friend's plea.
"Damn it, Ed!" She tossed her hair over her shoulder and strode angrily after her crimson coated comrade.
Ling followed quickly in her footsteps, calling after Edward as well. This left Alphonse and Barry in the alleyway 由 themselves, standing in the awkward silence.
"Edward! Damn it, listen to me!"
Hayden roughly pulled Ed's shoulder so he would turn to face her. His expression startled her, twisted up in baleful aggression.
"Can't 你 just stay out of trouble?! I'm already in enough as it is! I can't babysit 你 two!"
Hayden's face softened.
"There's 更多 to what you're telling us. You're angry about something else. I can tell."
Ling snorted as he folded his arms and stared Edward down. Ling could read the expression on his face clear as day, but there was something deeper, something deep down that he was frustrated about. A secret? Possibly.
"Let's just get back to the hotel. Al!"
"So, Edward..."
Ling was perched on the 长椅, 沙发 beside Hayden. Ed and Al sat across the way, eyes drawn down to their laps. "What do 你 know about a 'Solf J. Kimblee'?" Ling asked, opening his usually shifty eyes.
"That blonde woman who took us in custody today; while Hayden and Barry were talking, she 说 something to the smoking man about how the 颜色 of the leaves reminded her of the sands of Ishval."
Edward tried to keep his shock and dismay from 阅读 on his concrete face. He was talking about Hawkeye and Havoc; and of course Ed knew that. The young prince continued "She the said something about remembering what a man named Solf J. Kimblee 说 to her. Something about not taking their eyes off the people they kill. What do 你 know?"
Ed knew nothing of this man. Hawkeye had only grazed over a few important events of the War of Extermination. It must have pained her to speak about the man.
Edward stroked his child-like chin with his automail hand.
"He must have been part of the military." Ed thought.
"I think I know a way to get intel on him, but we have to go back to Central...there's a 图书馆 there with records of each soldier. I know a few people there, so I'm sure I could get in there safely without getting 你 two caught again." Edward pulled out his watch. Hayden's eyes widening as she furrowed her brow.
"So, you're a dog of the military, are you? I've been with 你 this whole time, trying to get away from the military, and yet; I've been under the supervision of a soldier this whole time. I'm so stupid..."
Ling lightly placed a hand on her shoulder, her body almost flinching away. She didn't know who she could trust.
"He's a good guy. Trust me."
