But please, in this house, I'll call out anyone. Mom, that sounded racist, Mels, that was a little sexist, oh and yeah, the three of you, stop with the homophobic jokes.
My dad's the least feminist. He uses the term "woman" as an insult to males. For example, let's say he witnesses a man driving badly: "what does she think she's doing?" And if an actual woman makes a mistake, he calls them "tart" or "slut". So in that sense, he doesn't come across as a feminist! But, I've noticed, if you talk to him about actual gender equality issues without using the terms "feminism" or "sexism", he will generally agree that they are real issues. So he doesn't really think that any gender should be treated unequally, he just has this idea that being female is more offensive than being male. Basically, he does seem to still think that one gender is superior to another in his mind, but he doesn't think people should be deprived of rights due to their gender.
My mum and brother seem to have a better idea of gender equality, as in they don't act like one gender is better than another. Even so, they still have tendencies to complain much more often about how women used to get cheaper car insurance in the UK (until the amendment of the Equality Act in 2012) than the wage gap between males and females (which still exists today, although the Equality Act helped to make the gap a little smaller at least).
In short, I find that my parents and brother are okay with feminism, as long as you don't call it "feminism".
However, some of my other family members (on my dad's side of the family) are quite pro-gender role. My nan especially. But my aunts, uncles, and one or two cousins are a little that way too. If they choose to live their own lives following traditional gender roles, then that's their own choice and I'm okay with it. But I do have a problem with them trying to force me to do the same.
