This is for me like how porn usually is treated. I go to feminist sites when I'm sure I'm alone, use a Firefox add-on to make the tab look like it hasn't loaded any page, and I'm terrified of being caught doing anything feministy.

Yes and no, for me. I've called some of my family members misogynists before, and they know I'm a feminist, but they're not really open to rational debate, so I don't generally bring stuff up unless I just can't ignore it anymore. So, I'm not comfortable bringing up feminist issues, but I'm not uncomfortable, if that makes any sense.

Not really. My father especially is really averse to an ideas that are against his traditional ones. He's really big on gender roles, so he's advised my mother once or twice, told her not to give what I have to say a second thought.

^ My father is like that too. I still feel comfortable expressing feminist views, I do it all the time. Everyone is use to it and they like me that way. It's normal at my house.

Well yes and no. I can talk about it with my mom because she's pretty open-minded and stuff, but I haven't wanted to talk about it to my dad and my brother probably does think women and men are equal but when he hears the word "feminist", the thing that comes to his mind is "misandrist lesbian".

My parents are totally comfortable with me being a feminist. I think my dad even considers himself a feminist. I even got him to stop drinking Dr Pepper after those 'its not for women' ads.My family is very openminded and progressive. Considering the fact that my grandma was the first black female executive at AT&T, and I have a lot of gay family, its not very surprising.

^ Aww I wish my dad was like that. My dad doesn't really care, but I want him to care about feminism.

my family totally understands it but i don't really mention it because they don't know. i'm not a complete feminist like being upset about a woman's thing but i don't like it when we are cursed out by guys because we don't play football or only loved because of our looks.

Now I do. But in my dad's house? He once told me and my sister that it was our OBLIGATION to clean the whole house cause we were "the woman of the house." He'd get pissed cause he had to cook for us. HIM. OUR PARENT, who is SUPPOSED to feed his children.
But please, in this house, I'll call out anyone. Mom, that sounded racist, Mels, that was a little sexist, oh and yeah, the three of you, stop with the homophobic jokes.

As a cultural feminist, my views are to futuristic for my liberal feminist family. But because I am a feminist I express them anyway.

My parents and brother seem to have somewhat feminist mindsets themselves, but they don't seem aware of it.

My dad's the least feminist. He uses the term "woman" as an insult to males. For example, let's say he witnesses a man driving badly: "what does she think she's doing?" And if an actual woman makes a mistake, he calls them "tart" or "slut". So in that sense, he doesn't come across as a feminist! But, I've noticed, if you talk to him about actual gender equality issues without using the terms "feminism" or "sexism", he will generally agree that they are real issues. So he doesn't really think that any gender should be treated unequally, he just has this idea that being female is more offensive than being male. Basically, he does seem to still think that one gender is superior to another in his mind, but he doesn't think people should be deprived of rights due to their gender.

My mum and brother seem to have a better idea of gender equality, as in they don't act like one gender is better than another. Even so, they still have tendencies to complain much more often about how women used to get cheaper car insurance in the UK (until the amendment of the Equality Act in 2012) than the wage gap between males and females (which still exists today, although the Equality Act helped to make the gap a little smaller at least).

In short, I find that my parents and brother are okay with feminism, as long as you don't call it "feminism".

However, some of my other family members (on my dad's side of the family) are quite pro-gender role. My nan especially. But my aunts, uncles, and one or two cousins are a little that way too. If they choose to live their own lives following traditional gender roles, then that's their own choice and I'm okay with it. But I do have a problem with them trying to force me to do the same.
