To like 或者 not to like? That is the question.
Earlier tonight, the ratings system of 潮流粉丝俱乐部 experienced a massive overhaul. No longer can 你 rate content on a scale of one to five (ala YouTube), but if 你 like content, 你 can "like" it (ala Facebook), 或者 "be a fan" of it.
Dave gave a very good, logical explanation for the change to help assuage some fears and answer some questions:
"Hi Guys,
Thanks for making this pick. There are a lot of reasons we wanted to create a new system for deciding whether 粉丝 like something 或者 not. We found that most people were rating either 4 或者 5 stars so we thought if 你 liked it enough, 你 could just say so. But we found a lot of people also going around abusing the system 由 voting things negatively just to be malicious 或者 hurt someone else. 潮流粉丝俱乐部 is all about being positive and the new system let's people know 你 enjoyed their content and not just try to hurt people's feelings. No trophies were removed, the rating trophy now just counts the number of things you've 说 你 are a 粉丝 of. As with any major change on the site, we put a lot of time and thought into it to make sure it will make 潮流粉丝俱乐部 a better place. We know that people don't like change, but hopefully you'll agree that this is a better system for everyone!
Dave" [link]
Now before we all freak out (like I already did when I first saw the change), let's address these points. Dave is absolutely right. There are trolls enough on 潮流粉丝俱乐部 that the diligent user link created the link, as well as the link for premium content that's ignored 由 other users.
Despite warnings in the VRSOF spot about posting 链接 for the purpose of "medal-whoring" and despite 发布 and repeated rules on what kind of content should be posted, and suggestions as to what warrants a five-star rating, most of the content in the VRSOF is one 或者 更多 of the following: A) Recently 发布 (within the last 24 hours) B) Poorly key-worded/credited C) Repeated content. Despite these things, people still tend to rate the content upon request, and generally (without giving it much thought) five 星, 星级 the content.
So it's clear that the majority of Fanpoppers don't think very hard about how they rate. Either they're trolls and one-star content just to be mean, 或者 they rate an image with no credit 或者 any key words five stars just to be nice. In that sense, this "like" solution (as I call it) seems to be a very sensible way to go.
But then, there are the people like me. I recently described myself as an "anal retentive credit-crazy 密码 queen." And it's true. A student of DrDevience, uncredited and poorly keyworded 图片 became a particular pet peeve of mine, especially as I try really hard to give accurate credit and relevant 密码 when I post content. 图片 especially would get a variety of ratings from one-star (with an explanation, always) to five stars (with praise, sometimes).
In addition to that, I tend to rate 文章 based on their length, relevance to the spot topic, what they say, and how its said. Here are two 文章 I would rate dramatically differently, even if I "liked" the content:
"mY oPiNiOn"
"Dogz r pretty cool. i used 2 have a dog. but ppl say dat 狗 r 冷却器 巢穴, den, 书房 cats. mabeh deir rite, but i dunno. but personly, i like catz cuz deir fuzzy and cute. CATZ 4 EVA! DA END!"
Vs
"Cats 或者 Dogs?"
"First of all, let's just say that 狗 are pretty awesome. I had a dog growing up and I loved him to pieces. But some would argue that 狗 are make better pets than cats. It's a matter of opinion, but I think they're wrong. Here's why... etc."
Now, 你 may LIKE 或者 粉丝 the 文章 because it talks about 猫 and 狗 (always a fun debate), but which one would 你 rate higher?
This presents a problem with the new ratings system. Maybe this problem is just one that 粉丝 like me have, but I just wanted to step up and represent that population, however small it may be! (I forget - is 潮流粉丝俱乐部 a democracy 或者 a dictatorship? Ah well, have them throw me in the 潮流粉丝俱乐部 dungeon, I'm speaking my piece!)
I'm gonna miss deciding the quality of the content I'm rating. It's true, if a video has accurate keywords, I'll tend to five-star it. Same goes for most 链接 (although I do like relevant titles and descriptions with my links, so I know what I'm clicking). But content like 图片 and articles, I'm very picky about. And I'll miss expressing that opinion via rating. True, I can still 评论 and preach proper key-wording, but it won't be the same. Also, ratings tend to reflect when content is particularly bad - like a dangerous link, 或者 a poorly written article. When I see 2.5s and 3s as the average rating, I know there's something about that content that's off, 或者 at least controversial, and it tends to catch my interest. How will I pick out that kind of content now?
Back when I was freaking out about the change, I was talking to link and I said: "I wouldn't rate my friends' 脸谱 statuses on a scale of one to five! And I wouldn't like content on Fanpop." (Clarifying that I meant clicking the "be a 粉丝 of" button, not that I didn't appreciate 潮流粉丝俱乐部 content, of course).
So while I understand where the 潮流粉丝俱乐部 Four are coming from with this, and it is a very positive rating system, I'm gonna have to be the killjoy that says, "No, but, wait!" Because it does make me sad to lose the old rating system. And I don't feel like a hero anymore when I find and 报道 trolled content to the ATSOF.
An era in 潮流粉丝俱乐部 has ended, my friends.
(... Unless the F4 decide to change it back...?)
Also, a 列表 of 问题 I bombarded DarkSarcasm with and decided to include. In response to Dave's explanation:
1) Does a one/two-star rating on old content now count as a "being a fan"?
2) If a user one-starred content in the past, is that in their ratings trophy count?
3) If we accidentally 粉丝 something, is there any way we can 'un-fan' it? (asks link)
4) The Great 脸谱 Question: Will there ever be a "dislike" (or "Not a fan") button?
5) The "If-I-Told-You-I'd-Have-To-Kill-You" Question: Do ratings (or "being fans") still count towards getting a medal and if so, has the weight on ratings changed at all in that respect?

I am not here to lecture 你 yet again on 照片 crediting. I am done with that.
I am way past the lecturing and into downright grrrrrr-ville.
你 already know full well that taking something 你 did not create and not giving full credit to the owner is theft. Your excuses mostly boil down to laziness at this point.
So.
This is my public notice that any and all 图片 with no credit to the original owner of the image will be rated harshly no matter how great the picture is... 或者 how much I normally like you.
Additionally, if there is a blatant Copyright notice right there on the damn picture and 你 still failed to credit the owner, I'm reporting it to 潮流粉丝俱乐部 -and- notifying the owner of the image that 你 偷了 it.
Enough is enough.

A few 分钟 以前 I thought of a partial answer to the 最近的 outbreak of internet trolls we've had over the last few moths.
Ladies and Gentlepoppers, I introduce to you:
The ATSOF (The Anti Troll Squad Of Fanpop)
This will be a society of fanpoppers who work together to justly rate any content which has (without reason) been rated low.
My plan is to make an ATSOF Spot; if a spot 或者 particular piece of content has been rated low 你 can alert the ATSOF spot about this and some of the "fans" of the spot will head over to the content and rate the content fairly, therefore boosting the rating.
Please tell me what 你 think; I don't want to create a Ghost-Spot-to-be

If we make a new spot we want to make it popular. Recently I made a new spot so when I wanted to send a message to all my 老友记 about it I got tired of typing individual messages so I quit. So we should be able to send one message to all our 老友记 at the same time if necessary. Also there should be an area that says "new spots" on the 首页 page so that people can see what has been recently created and if they want to 加入 the particular spot. It would really make the people who created the spots happy because they could get some good publicity.
由 the way I made a new spot about Kal Penn, the indian guy from the 面包车, 范 wilder movies, Harold and Kumar go to white castle, and Epic Movie.
So if u like those 电影院 check it out. all 你 have to do is type "Kal Penn" in the 搜索 engine" (obviously, I know)
Also this soapbox was ment for the 潮流粉丝俱乐部 spot

Hello to everyone,
my name is Inès, and I'm French.
As a lot of 你 know, Paris has been attacked yesterday 由 terrorists. The 音乐会 hall "Le Bataclan" has been attacked during a concert.
128 dead and 更多 than 200 wounded are for now counted. This is a tragedy.
I was born and I've lived in Paris, and I often go there and to the Bataclan to attend concerts, and seeing this, is just awful. The whole country is shocked and desperate.
3 national days of mourning have been declared.
I invite 你 to leave a few words, thoughts for the victims of this disaster.
Thank 你 <3
