It doesn't really bother me what it's called but it would make things a lot easier.

It's not about what's easier but it has to do with a nation's HISTORY !!!!!

What I meant was that it wouldn't really make much difference if they did change the name seeing as a a lot of people already refer to FYROM as Macedonia.

It's like in Britain nobody calls it by its proper title of "The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland" because it's stupidly long and people know what you're on about when you refer to Britain.

When I say Britain instead of "The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland" it doesn't change anything about the history of the country, it's just an easier way of saying where I live, lol!

If we accept as country that every one can take sth from our history without reacting, then more and more pieces of our history will be disputed and will be asserted !!!!!we have to react now so as to protect our heritage.

I still don't see how changing a name can have any effect on a country's history. They could still keep FYROM as the official title but use Macedonia for other things, just like Britain does.

Well let me explain you.For example:your last name is Green. One day a stranger comes across and demands to take your unique last name. If you accept this, all the other people will suppose that you have the same family, the same origine, the same "HISTORY",the same traditions with the stranger...And if you accept once to give your last name to a stranger then more and more strangers will demand to have the same last name, the same first name, the same family, the same "house",the same "clothes",the same "habbits", the same "everything" with you...And one day, you will realise that nothing unique and personal had left to you.But then will be LATE to react and take them all back...Finally there will be a world full of GREENs !!!!! So we have to react now and protect our "everything"...cause Greens are Greens and the greek name of Macedonia is the greek name of Macedonia...

Basically, Greece doesn't want the new name of FYROM to contain Macedonia but FYROM doesn't want a title without Macedonia in. And you're worried that if FYROM is allowed to be called simply Macedonia then it will take away the identity of the Greek region of Macedonia?

After reading up on the whole situation I can see where you're coming from. I'm sure that FYROM and Greece can come to a compromise eventually.

Of course not! And I don't mean to offend anyone but whoever says that they could/should be called like that doesn't know proper history!

Simple example: People from F.Y.R.O.M want to be named Macedonia because according to what they say, Alexander the Great (I hope we all know who he is so I'm not going to explain his background) was
from the same origin as them. Now, if you read a few history books or just look it up on the net you'll find that they appeared during the 6th century B.C while Alexander the Great lived during the 4th century B.C !!!! So unless Alexander the Great was "immortal" there is no way something like that happened!

I mean come on... they don't even have logical reasons. There proofs are make-believe. So since its not proven I personally don't accept F.Y.R.O.M people calling themselves Macedonians. Its our history! Our country's past! They can't throw that away and decide to take what's ours!

Again I don't mean to offend anyone its simply what I believe. Sorry if it comes over as really one-sided or arrogant or whatever but its my honest point of view.
