New ‘Frozen Fun’ Opens at Disneyland Resort January 7
posted on December 5th, 2014 by Shawn Slater, Communications Manager, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Creative Entertainment
This winter, Disneyland Resort celebrates the opening of spectacular new “Frozen Fun” at Disney California Adventure park, featuring magical adventures with characters from Disney’s blockbuster hit, “Frozen.” For a limited time beginning January 7, 2015, we’ll be bringing you a flurry of all-new, immersive experiences you won’t want to miss!
Some of the highlights coming to Disney California Adventure park include:
“For the First Time in Forever – A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration” – The Muppet*Vision 3D theater in Hollywood Land has been transformed for this event into the beautiful Crown Jewel Theatre from Arendelle. You’re invited to step inside and join the Arendelle Historians – along with special appearances by Anna, Elsa and Kristoff – for a fun and comedic retelling of the unique history of their kingdom, filled with delightful, sing-along moments from “Frozen.”
“Olaf’s Snow Fest” – Stage 17 in Hollywood Land plays host to an immersive winter wonderland straight out of the Kingdom of Arendelle, complete with a giant snow play area and musical performances by The Frolicking Fjords and The Tubadors. You can glide down a snow slide, build a snowman of your own and visit everyone’s favorite snowy pal, Olaf, and give him a warm hug. “Olaf’s Snow Fest” has so much to offer, from beautiful photo opportunities to scrumptious treats and special “Frozen” souvenirs. It’ll be a great spot for making memories that’ll warm your heart.
Wandering Oaken’s Trading Post – Head back outside, and nearby you’ll find Wandering Oaken’s Trading Post, where you can pick up the latest “Frozen”-inspired apparel, plush, toys, mugs and more.
“Anna and Elsa’s Royal Welcome” – Anna and Elsa, the beloved sisters from “Frozen,” move from Fantasyland to an elegant new location inside the Disney Animation attraction at Disney California Adventure park, where you can meet them as part of a special royal greeting. The colorful and varied display in the Animation Courtyard will also now include scenes and music from Disney’s Academy Award-winning blockbuster hit, “Frozen,” and at Animation Academy, a Disney artist asks, “Do You Want to Draw a Snowman?” It’s a unique opportunity to learn how to draw your very own sketch of Olaf or Marshmallow.
“Freeze the Night! A Family Dance Party” – Each evening, you’re invited to “chill out” in Hollywood Land with music, dancing, interactive fun and more in this new, family-friendly experience. You’ll arrive at the party through an icy archway to find wintry décor, dazzling lighting effects, cool photo spots, yummy treats and frosty beverages for all ages. Throughout the night, a giant thermometer registers the drop in temperature, as things get so cool they ultimately reach the freezing point when everyone lets it go in a spectacular “Frozen Fun” crescendo!
A sneak peek of many of these exciting experiences begins Saturday, Dec. 20. Starting January 7, 2015, the “Frozen Fun” officially launches at Disney California Adventure park, and a new “Frozen” show makes its debut in Fantasy Faire at Disneyland park.
The Royal Theatre’s resident storytellers, Mr. Smythe and Mr. Jones, present the tale of “Frozen” in a fun-filled, fast-paced retelling of the story, featuring their own wacky performances in key roles, along with Anna, Elsa and the Faire Maidens. And when “Mickey’s Soundsational Parade” resumes daily performances January 7, Anna and Elsa will once again make pre-parade appearances on their own special float.
When Storybook Land Canal Boats returns later this month, there will be a new addition to this charming and beloved Fantasyland attraction, with excursions through the world of “Frozen” offering views of the fjord-side village of Arendelle, including the stately castle where Anna and Elsa grew up, Wandering Oaken’s Trading Post, and Elsa’s mountaintop ice palace. The miniature locales of “Frozen” will find a new home among the familiar scenes of some of Disney’s most enduring and timeless fairy tales, including “Pinocchio,” “Cinderella,” “Aladdin,” and “The Little Mermaid.”
And don’t forget about Olaf’s Frozen Ice Rink (continuing through February 22, 2015) and the new Anna & Elsa’s Boutique, both open now at Downtown Disney District. For fans of “Frozen,” there’s never been a better time to visit Disneyland Resort! Which of these new experiences are you most excited about? Let us know in the comments, and join the conversation using the hashtag #FrozenFun!

The new Frozen show in Fantasy Faire won’t be taking the place of Mickey and the Magical Map, will it?
Shawn Slater on December 5th, 2014 at 11:05 am
V.J. – “Frozen” will be presented in the Royal Theatre at Fantasy Faire, near Sleeping Beauty Castle. “Mickey and the Magical Map” will continue in the Fantasyland Theatre, near the entrance to Mickey’s Toontown.
Bringing my granddaughter for her first visit in January. She will LOVE this!
VJ: Mickey and the Magical Map is in the FantasyLand theater, not the Fantasy Faire. It will not affect it.
Shawn, looking forward to this event as we count down to the amazing plans you have in store for the 60th.
And thank you for clearing up the unfounded rumor this morning. I appreciate it.
Shawn Slater on December 5th, 2014 at 12:09 pm
George – You’re quite welcome. Lots of exciting things happening at Disneyland Resort in 2015!
I would love to go to the sneak peek but my pass gets blocked-out starting the 20th.
Shawn Slater on December 5th, 2014 at 12:10 pm
Liana – You’ll be able to enjoy everything, starting January 7 and continuing through the spring!
Sounds like a lot of exciting new things! Will the Beauty and the Beast and Tangled shows continue at the Royal Theatre or will the new Frozen one replace them?
Shawn Slater on December 5th, 2014 at 12:11 pm
Clarissa – For a limited time, the Royal Theatre players will be presenting the story of “Frozen” exclusively, but the “Tangled” and “Beauty and the Beast” stories remain in their repertoire to be presented again in the future.
Question, when this all concludes at some point. Do Anna and Elsa go back to their original meet & greet spot in Disneyland or is this going to become permanent?
Shawn Slater on December 5th, 2014 at 12:14 pm
Taylor – Anna and Elsa are expected to continue greeting Guests inside Disney Animation at Disney California Adventure following the conclusion of the “Frozen Fun” event.
Stacy from CA on December 5th, 2014 at 11:40 am
Will the Royal Theatre still present Beauty and the Beast and Tangled, along with Frozen, or will Frozen replace one or both of the existing shows?
How long will the Frozen Fun events last? Is there a projected closing date?
Shawn Slater on December 5th, 2014 at 12:17 pm
Stacy – “Frozen Fun” continues at Disney California Adventure Park through May 15, 2015. For a limited time, the Royal Theatre players at Fantasy Faire will be presenting the story of “Frozen” exclusively, but the “Tangled” and “Beauty and the Beast” stories remain in their repertoire to be presented again in the future.
We will be there at the beginning of the sneak peek phase and I know my kids would love to do any of this that they could. Besides Storybookland Canals being reopened, what might we be able to do?
Shawn Slater on December 5th, 2014 at 12:18 pm
Melinda – Most of the new “Frozen Fun” experiences at Disney California Adventure will also be ready, starting December 20.
Grace from CA on December 5th, 2014 at 11:49 am
On the Storybook Land Canal Boats, where will Arendelle be located during the boat ride? What will this town replace?
Shawn Slater on December 5th, 2014 at 12:21 pm
Grace – The new scene for Storybook Land Canal Boats is being created in the space where the Old Mill once stood.
Shawn Slater on December 5th, 2014 at 12:24 pm
Sara – Yes! “Frozen Fun” officially begins January 7 and continues through May 15, 2015. During the first week of January, you’ll be able to get a sneak peek of many of the new experiences at Disney California Adventure.
Is this happening all January? We have a trip planned for the end of January and my daughter would love the “Frozen Fun”!
I am really excited for these new additions!!!!! Now I just have to buy a annual pass:-)
Shawn Slater on December 5th, 2014 at 2:11 pm
Eddie from CA on December 5th, 2014 at 12:28 pm
Shawn Slater on December 5th, 2014 at 2:25 pm
Eddie – The Mad Arcade was part of Mad T Party and will not be available during “Frozen Fun.”
Thomas from PA on December 5th, 2014 at 12:42 pm
Will Anna & Elsa greet guest after shows in the Royal Theatre?
Shawn Slater on December 5th, 2014 at 1:23 pm
Gregory – You’ll be able to meet Anna and Elsa inside Disney Animation at Disney California Adventure.
Is December 19 the last day Anna & Elsa will appear in the Fantasyland cottage?
Shawn Slater on December 5th, 2014 at 1:25 pm
Gregory – Yes. They will move to Disney California Adventure on December 20.
Loren from CA on December 5th, 2014 at 1:04 pm
Will Olaf start meeting by December 20? We’re coming in early January and would love to meet him!
Shawn Slater on December 5th, 2014 at 1:28 pm
Loren – While we can’t guarantee that all experiences will be ready for December 20, you should definitely have an opportunity to meet Olaf during your visit in early January.
I must admit I’m pretty sad that the Old Mill is being removed from Storybookland. Guess it’s a good thing we took some nice photos of it last time. I’m sure they will do a lovely job on Arendelle, but the Old Mill is so classic.
Shawn Slater on December 5th, 2014 at 1:32 pm
Tracie – I agree! Storybook Land Canal Boats is one of the original Disneyland attractions, and this is the first major addition to Storybook Land since 1994. Not to worry, though. My friends at Walt Disney Imagineering assure me that the windmills from the Old Mill scene are being preserved for the future.
That’s a lot of Frozen…not sure how it fits in thematically at DCA.
With the sing-along taking over the Muppet-Vision theater, what will happen to it? Is DCA planning to close Muppet-Vision permanently as some rumors have suggested?
Shawn Slater on December 5th, 2014 at 2:44 pm
Philip – “For the First Time in Forever – A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration” is planned to run through at least May 15, 2015. Muppet*Vision 3D is expected to return at some point in the future.
Is there any plan for Return Tickets or FP type options for either Anna and Elsa’s Royal Welcome or Olaf’s Snow Fest?
Shawn Slater on December 5th, 2014 at 3:31 pm
Tia – Yes. Return Time passes will be available for “Anna and Elsa’s Royal Welcome” and “For the First Time in Forever – A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration” (there will also be a standby queue option for that show). At Olaf’s Snow Fest, a system is being implemented to enable guests to enjoy the snow play area, live music, and other activities while waiting for those warm hugs from Olaf.
Fred from CA on December 5th, 2014 at 3:28 pm
All of this sounds very cool. Frozen is a fantastic film (with great characters) and these attractions are sure to be a hit.
I’m especially glad to hear that Storybook Land Canal Boats will be getting an update.
If Anna and Elsa are leaving their Fantasyland cottage does that mean Rapunzel and Flynn will move back in?
Thomas from CA on December 5th, 2014 at 5:02 pm
Will the Frozen show at Disneyland’s Fantasy Faire impact the Saturday night Royal Swing Big Band Ball?
For the music live show will it be like mad T party and sell adult drinks?
Will the beverages at “Freeze the Night” be similar to those at Mad T’s “Drink Me Bar”?
My family and I are visiting Disneyland Resort in June 2015. Will a majority of the festivities still be going on then? Is there a specific date that’s listed as the final date for these events? Any answers are greatly appreciated! I would LOVE to meet Olaf and see the Sing-A-Long show!
