Chapter 6—The Rescue Begins

    Lady and Tramp bustled past their street, following the rails, and gradually, the tranquil atmosphere of their 首页 suddenly vanished, as the streets became rugged and the fancy houses and neatly kept houses became less and less prim and proper. Lady was worried and a bit uncomfortable with the uncertain atmosphere. “Tramp, we’re not going… well, we’re 安全 from the dogcatcher, aren’t we?”
    “Oh, of course!” Tramp confidently told Lady, with a lot of energy radiating from his voice. “We have collars, remember Pidge?”
    Lady nodded, but she stated, “But that didn’t matter last time.”
    “Pidge, I’ll get 你 out of trouble if we have any problems,” Tramp told Lady reassuringly. “Now come on, let’s go find our kids.”
    The two 爱人 strolled into town, but while they were drawing further and further away from the houses and residential areas, Lady was growing increasingly confident with each step, encouraged 由 Tramp. At last, they reached the main 街, 街道 of town.
    “Maybe Scamp and 天使 will be in the pet shop,” Lady stated. “I was muzzled there once…”
    “Yeah, 你 poor pidge,” Tramp told her. “We’ll look.”
    Lady looked nervously through the pet 商店 window, but to her dismay there was only the pet storekeeper and some birds and fish. “Not here,” she told Tramp sadly.
    “Pidge, 你 keep looking, while I explore the street. I know their hideouts pretty well.”
    Tramp left Lady’s side as Lady continued to look through windows, yet there was no trace of Scamp 或者 天使 anywhere, none of their loose furs, none of their tracks through mud, completely no sign of them at all.
    Lady rounded the corner of the street, still with no success regarding finding Scamp, but she noticed that at once Tramp was knocking down trash cans, enjoying watching the trash fly out, and grabbing 识骨寻踪 out of the cans happily.
    “Tramp!” Lady cried. “I’m afraid I don’t understand… why are 你 doing that?”
    “Oh, Pidge, 你 know those two, they’re going to be hiding in the trash!” Tramp stated, though not entirely convincing Lady of his reason. Hurriedly, he told her, “Come on. Let’s get out of here…”
    Lady followed Tramp through streets, as she continued to peer in the windows and he looked out at the streets to find their children. Lady looked everywhere in the windows, peering through grocery stores, department stores, even some of the few houses. At last, the two passed a few restaurants, and soon they noticed…
    “Hey, Pidge!” Tramp told Lady excitedly.
    “Yes?” Lady asked, looking hurriedly in the window of Francois’ Pastries, which turned out to be yet again a disappointment.
    “We can stop at Tony’s!” Tramp stated happily. “We can relive the good ol’ days!”
    Lady stopped for a second, hesitating. “But…who’d find our children?”
    “We’ll be able to find them better after a full stomach and a nice date,” Tramp told Lady, and obligingly, Lady agreed. The two of them sauntered into Tony’s Italian place happily. “Wait here,” Tramp told Lady, but then he stated, “Bummer!”
    Lady crossed over, and she asked, “What?”
    “Tony’s is closed,” Tramp stated disappointedly. “Come on, Pidge. Let’s…”
    “Look for our puppies,” Lady told Tramp decisively.
    Tramp nodded, but the look on his face suggested he wanted to do other activities as well. Before they left, they found a couple of 识骨寻踪 left on a dish right outside Tony’s. “Well Pidge, at least we can eat these,” Tramp told Lady happily, and the two of them ate hungrily.
Lady asked Tramp, “Do 你 have an idea of where to look next?”
Tramp stated, “We should go look in the junkyard.”
    “The junkyard?” Lady cried. “I should say not… Scamp would never do that.”
    “He already did once,” Tramp countered. “And 天使 knows that place well. This is where she lived as a 街, 街道 dog. Why would they not go there, Pidge?”
    Lady conceded Tramp had a fair point. “But let’s focus on finding our kids,” she stated firmly and flatly.
    “Oh, of course!” Tramp stated, confidently, as Lady gave him a serious look.
    The two of them hurried far away into the dingy part of town, where Tramp knew the junkyard would be located. The 破烂, 垃圾 hardly changed from when Scamp was there last, but now it was completely vacated and empty. “Looks like no one’s here,” Lady told Tramp.
    “Oh come on, Pidge,” Tramp told her. “We have to check first. They’re 街, 街道 dogs, so they’re bound to be hiding.”
    The two of them entered the junkyard carefully, and looked through it carefully. They carefully examined the pile of junk.
“They’re not here,” Tramp stated, digging through a large pile of junk, and looking like he was thoroughly enjoying himself. He had a much larger dug pile of broken doors, couches, and cans, than Lady, who was not accustomed to digging through piles of stuff bigger than the flowerbed in Jim Dear’s garden, and who only got to a small pile of broken cans. Just preparing to give up in the junkyard, Lady looked up, and soon, she noticed a wobbly car standing on 最佳, 返回页首 of the junk. This gave Lady an idea. “They might be in the broken car,” Lady told Tramp. “I’ll check it out.”
    Lady hurriedly began to climb up the junk, but Tramp ran up, stating, “Pidge, don’t!” in a hurried way. She reached the car, walked in, but the car wobbled vigorously, and began to tip off the pile of junk. Tramp rushed in, and grabbed Lady 由 the 领, 衣领 hurriedly just as the car fell off the pile, making an enormous bang and causing debris of 破烂, 垃圾 to fly everywhere, the pile was completely spread out.
    “Well, Pidge, at least we separated through the junk,” Tramp stated.
    “But we still can’t see Scamp and Angel,” Lady told Tramp.
    “You’re right,” Tramp told Lady.“I think we might’ve had enough for one day,” Tramp told Lady. “Come on, Pidge. We’ll look somewhere else.”
    But they prepared to leave just a few moments too late.
