Getting Eric was just a plus

Her song was about wanting to be human, not about being with Eric! She obviously wanted to be human WAY before she met Eric. She had been collecting human things for basically her whole life. It's been something she's always wanted. Plus she seemed to be more excited about being human than she was about being with Eric.

i think its this one because it would be a win-win for her, being human, exploring the human world, and meet the guy of her dreams.

I believe in the beginning, before she met him, her goal was purely to become human. However, after she met him, I think her goal shifted, and her main desire was to be with him.

^ But for her to be with Eric she would have to, in turn, transform herself into a human, so surely that means that her desire to become human is much much stronger, seeing as that's what she wanted at the beginning too? Eric just reinforced her desire to become human. Even if she wanted Eric a lot more than legs, her desire to become human is still stronger seeing as she wouldn't be able to have him without becoming a human herself.

^^ Maybe. But I think she would have gladly stay a mermaid and never wish to be human again if someone told her that they will turn Eric into a merman, because that's what Eric wants(in a way, Eric does not want to be human).

^ Possibly, but I think that the reason she liked Eric so much was because he seemed nice AND was a human - I'm sure there were mermen similar to him that didn't interest her. I have a feeling she would only want to be with Eric if she was a human and he a human too.

Before she saw Eric, she wanted to be human but never acted on it. After she fell in love with him, she actually went to the sea witch.
